👏 Congratulations to TNP member and Legislative Ambassador Becky Spencer on this important op-ed highlighting the need to talk about perinatal mental health.

With perinatal mood and anxiety disorders affecting 1 in 5 women, education, early recognition, and access to evidence-informed care matter. Thank you, Becky, for using your expertise and voice to help replace stigma and misunderstanding with knowledge and care.

We agree. Outdated licensing laws are holding back highly trained NPs—and in Texas, they’re restricting patients’ access to care.

There have been some promising reforms to occupational licensing, but too many states still erect barriers that don’t reflect today’s economy and labor market.

Important SB 912 Update: Texas Nurses can now upload CE documentation directly through the Texas Nurse Portal. Read more: https://bit.ly/3Upyd0L

The CE Upload Module is Now Live!

As a reminder, during the Texas 89th Legislature Session, SB 912 (https://capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/89R/billtext/pdf/SB00912F.pdf) was passed, requiring all nurses to track continuing education (CE) prior to renewal.

Texas nurses can now upload their continuing education (CE) documentation directly through the Texas Nurse Portal.

âť—Important Dates:
CE uploads will be required for license renewals and reactivations starting September 1, 2026, but the module is available now so you can get familiar with the process ahead of time.

How to Upload Your CE:
• Log in to your Texas Nurse Portal
• Select “Add Continuing Education” next to your license
• Follow the built-in instructions, a step-by-step tutorial is also available here: https://tinyurl.com/3hc6ym6z.

What You Need to Know:
• Beginning September 1, 2026, you must upload proof of all required CE before submitting your renewal or reactivation application.
• Acceptable CE documentation includes certificates of completion and transcripts.
• Make sure your CE meets the Texas Board of Nursing’s requirements—review accepted providers and topics before uploading.

Need More Information?
• Methods of CE Compliance: Learn about approved CE activities and how to meet the requirement (https://tinyurl.com/25ty4paj).
• CE Module Information & Step-by-Step Guide: Get detailed instructions on using the CE Upload Module (https://tinyurl.com/m2tp6y4k).

Getting started early will make your next renewal faster and easier!

TNP President Tracy Hicks and longtime TNP member and veteran advocate Shelagh Larson met with Rep. Katrina Pierson yesterday to discuss the supplemental interim charges focused on women’s health and menopause care.

Addressing the healthcare needs of Texas women across the full spectrum of their lives is long overdue. TNP is proud to advocate for the critical work NPs are already doing to provide women’s healthcare and to support this historic effort led by Rep. Pierson to expand access to life-changing care for women across Texas.
