Family,
May is Mental Health Awareness Month! This month we honor and remember a longtime supporter of WhatsintheMirror and matriarch of our family, Zuhura Namibia. My grandmother was a mental health advocate as well as peer support champion. She used her lived experience of living with Schizophrenia to help so many people in her community and beyond. This month wants to bring awareness to this mental health condition and combat stigma around it in her honor. Join us all month long ❤️🙏🏾- Tarik
Schizophrenia is a serious mental health condition that affects how people think, feel and behave. It may result in a mix of hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized thinking and behavior. Hallucinations involve seeing things or hearing voices that aren’t observed by others. Delusions involve firm beliefs about things that are not true. People with schizophrenia can seem to lose touch with reality, which can make daily living very hard.
