Over the past year, August's Artists has been quiet.

Our executive leadership - August’s devoted caregivers - shifted their full attention to supporting him through the most sacred and courageous chapter of his life.

On June 26, 2025, our beloved August transitioned peacefully following a 6-year journey through four brain cancer occurrences, stroke recovery, and significant medical complexity. He was the inspiration behind our name and our mission. August’s radiant spirit, creativity, and resilience remain the heartbeat of this organization.

While our grief is profound, so is our purpose.

This lived experience has only deepened our commitment to the work. We are more passionate than ever about honoring August’s legacy by supporting families facing medical complexity and trauma recovery alongside their physical healing journey.

As we recalibrate from this profound loss, we’ll soon be sharing new and exciting campaigns that reflect the next evolution of our mission - each one rooted in August’s joy, vision, and strength.

We’re proud to share that August's Artists has been recognized through the D CEO Magazine "Excellence in Healthcare Award for Outstanding Healthcare Advocate," awarded to our founder, Erica Olenski.

This honor reflects a collective effort to raise awareness about the importance of trauma-informed care and the transformative role of art in trauma recovery.

At August’s Artists, we’ve witnessed how creativity becomes a lifeline in life’s toughest moments. Whether it’s a crayon on a hospital window or a commemorative piece capturing a journey, art has the power to process pain, build connections, and inspire healing.

This recognition belongs to the families, caregivers, and communities that share our vision. Together, we’re advocating for a more compassionate healthcare system that acknowledges trauma, fosters healing, and values the whole person.

A big thank you to Children's Health for being one of the first health systems to believe in our vision. And to every supporter, donor, advocate, and health system who has joined us in our mission: this achievement is yours too. Thank you for believing in the power of art and for standing with us to champion care that puts humanity at the center.

Counting down with one week to go until North Texas Giving Day & we got to celebrate at "Community Helpers Night" hosted by the McGowen PTA! Thank you for including us this evening! The kiddos had a great time & did such a great job coloring their school halls. 🖍

And as a hometown bonus, we even got to hang out with Mckinney's infamous POW Ponder on Weather! 🌩

Finding space to relax can seem impossible at times, but even the tiniest moments of calm can be hugely restorative. 🧘‍♀️🧘

As much as we love coloring, we also know that artistic expression can come in lots of shapes, sizes, and colors. And in some cases, artful expression looks like walking, running, and dancing. 🚶‍♀️🏃💃
