🐥❤️ AN UPDATE ON OUR SWEET LITTLE DUCKIE ❤️🐥

Friday was a big day for our precious little Duckie. We took him to see the eye specialist to determine whether surgery would be necessary, and thankfully, we received some good news.

Duckie's eyes have been healing quickly enough that the specialist does not recommend surgery at this time. ❤️

Considering the severity of the damage to both eyes, we're relieved that we can continue treating him medically rather than putting his little body through surgery.

That said, Duckie is still a very complicated little patient with a long road ahead of him.

He has severe dry eye, which means his eyes aren't producing the tears they need to stay healthy. This will require ongoing treatment, likely for the rest of his life.

Duckie also isn't responding to light, meaning that, for all practical purposes, he is blind. We don't know whether that will ever change, and we're preparing for the possibility that it won't.

For now, our focus is on continuing his multiple eye medications throughout the day, keeping him comfortable, and giving his eyes every opportunity to heal. He'll return to the specialist in two weeks to evaluate his progress.

But here's the part that makes our hearts so happy. ❤️

Duckie doesn't seem particularly bothered by the fact that he can't see.

He's happy, carefree, and just so content to finally be feeling better. He's learning to navigate his little world, and we truly don't feel that his blindness is preventing him from adjusting to life.

Even once he's healed, Duckie will always be a special little boy who needs some extra care and consideration because of everything he's been through. But that doesn't mean he can't have a beautiful, happy, fulfilling life.

And watching him enjoy the simplest little things after everything he's endured is a pretty wonderful reminder of that.

Our sweet little duckling still has a long road ahead, but for now, we're grateful he's feeling better and getting the chance to just be a happy little boy 🐥❤️

Max has the sweetest eyes, and the way he looks at you just makes you want to give him everything.

At 7 years old, this boy still has so much life to live, so many walks to go on, and so many couch cuddles ahead of him. All he’s missing is someone to share it all with.

We really just want to see Max find his person. He’s been waiting long enough. 💔

Thank you for always saying things so succinctly for us ABC Dogs NZ.

Even though they are on the opposite side of the 🌏, our struggles and our experiences are the same.

Have a read and remember your newly adopted dog will love you even more for giving them the time and space to settle into their furever life with you. 🙏🏽

Kind can be boring.
Sometimes it needs to be.

We want to show them their new life.
But they might need time to recover from the old one first.

And I completely understand the excitement.

You've brought this dog home and you want to give them everything.
All the things that say, "look how good your life can be now"!

But they don't know that yet.

They don't know this house is permanent.
They don't know which noises matter.
They don't know the people walking through the door.

Even the routines they relied on have changed.
Everything's changed.

But one thing we do know.

They arrived with a history.

Sometimes one we know quite a lot about.
Sometimes one we know almost nothing about.

So while we're thinking about all the wonderful things we'd like to add into their life, they may still be trying to make sense of the life they have just landed in.

That's why making their world smaller for a while isn't necessarily depriving them.
It can be giving them fewer things to process at once.

And then, when their new world starts making a bit more sense, it can grow.

There is plenty of time for adventures.
But they don't need to experience their whole new life in their first week.
