What barriers still stand between travelers with disabilities and a truly accessible travel experience?

This October BADA Monthly session, “From Search to Stay: The Future of Accessible Travel,” features Andrew Slaiby, founder of search/ABLE, and Lorraine Woodward, founder and CEO of Becoming rentABLE. Together, they’ll explore how accessibility challenges affect every stage of travel, from navigating booking websites to finding accommodations that meet travelers’ needs.

You’ll hear firsthand perspectives on the barriers faced by travelers with mobility, vision, and non-visible disabilities. The discussion will cover WCAG-compliant booking tools, accessibility in hotels and short-term rentals, and developments in airline seating and onboard amenities.

Panelists will also examine how the travel industry can better communicate accessibility information, respond to diverse traveler needs, and identify opportunities to invest in more inclusive travel experiences.

The AccessU 2027 Call for Proposals is open!

Have knowledge, strategies, or hands-on experience in digital accessibility to share? We’re looking for presenters to lead practical, in-depth learning experiences at John Slatin AccessU 2027 in Austin.

This year’s topics include development, testing, design and UX, accessible documents, AI and emerging technologies, policy and strategy, marketing and communication, and advocacy.

All sessions will be presented in person at St. Edward’s University.

What does it mean to approach digital accessibility through an ethics lens—and how can that change the way we design technology and public services?

This September session, “Digital Accessibility Ethics: A New Tool to Advance Disability Inclusion in Tech,” features Lainey Feingold, Jess Moore Matthews, and Erin Brown. Drawing from the new book Digital Accessibility Ethics: Disability Inclusion in All Things Tech, they’ll introduce the Digital Accessibility Ethics Framework and explore how its values, actions, and questions can help advance disability inclusion across technologies and sectors.

You’ll hear how the Framework can be applied to real-world accessibility challenges, including barriers faced by disabled voters and the risks created when emergency preparedness systems are not designed with accessibility in mind. The speakers will also share practical ways you can apply the Framework in your own work to identify and prevent disability exclusion in technology.
