"September 11, 2001, changed the world for all of us, but it also had a profound impact on the paths we chose to pursue in public service. Through both our personal experiences and our careers serving our communities, we have developed a deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by first responders and strongly believe in the mission of Friends of Firefighters, particularly its commitment to addressing the mental health and well-being of the firefighting community.

Chris enlisted in the United States Army in 2010 and deployed to Eastern Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, serving as a Combat Engineer. Following his military service, he joined the FDNY in 2017. He has served with Engine 79 and Ladder 37 and is currently detailed to Squad 41 in the Bronx.

Jamie studied Criminal Justice at Kean University and began her public service career in 2018 as a 911 Telecommunicator with the Clifton Police Department. In 2022, she joined the Essex County Sheriff’s Office, serving in both the courts and patrol divisions. In February 2026, she continued her law enforcement career with the Washington Township Police Department.

Our shared experiences in the military, emergency communications, firefighting, and law enforcement have given us a firsthand understanding of the demands and challenges that come with a career in public service. We are proud to support the Friends of Firefighters mission and to help raise awareness and support for the mental health and overall well-being of those who dedicate their lives to protecting others." - Jamie & Chris

This September, teammates from Fire Velo, a California firefighter cycling club supporting firefighters with cancer, are riding from Boston to New York in the First Responder Ride for Resilience. 💪

This isn't Fire Velo's first rodeo. In 2021, Fire Velo rode from Santa Monica to the 9/11 Memorial to honor those lost on that day. The 25th anniversary is calling them back. "Firefighting is not a job, it's a calling. ...it's been my calling to keep their memories alive." -Buck Buchanan, LA County Fire Department Battalion Chief, Retired

Every mile supports first responder cancer and mental health resources, and two teammates, Joel White and Merideth Marsh, still need your help to reach their fundraising goal. Can you help them get there before they roll out of Boston on September 6?

This weekend, Team Livestrong heads into the Rocky Mountains to take on one of the toughest races in the sport: the Leadville Race Series Trail 100 Run. 🏔️

100 high-altitude miles, one mission driving every step: funding Livestrong's survivorship programs for people facing cancer. Every mile they run is for someone facing their own endurance race. 💛

Drop some love in the comments to send our runners off right, and if you're able, help power their run with a donation. They're nearly $600 away from their goal! Let's get our champions to that finish line. 🏃‍♀️

Next month marks 25 years since 9/11. To honor the anniversary, Boston firefighter Dave will embark on the First Responder Ride for Resilience, pedaling all the way from his home city to New York City alongside fellow first responders and community members who refuse to let that day be forgotten.

🚒 First responders carry more than the weight of the job. Many are living with the cancer and mental health impacts of their service. Your gift helps fund the resources they need through Livestrong, Friends of Firefighters, and the Boston Fire Cancer Foundation.

Dave needs just over $1000 to reach the start line. Will you help him get there? Donate today: https://ow.ly/14Ll50ZC5lV

Common Threads believes healthy habits start with the foods we eat every day. This month's theme is immune health and how to give your body the nutrients it needs to help support its natural defenses and overall wellness.

A roasted carrot and beet salad with a bright citrus dressing is a simple, colorful way to do just that. Carrots provide beta-carotene (Vitamin A) to help support healthy skin and immune defenses, while beets are rich in antioxidants that help protect cells from damage. The citrus dressing adds a boost of Vitamin C, which supports immune function and helps the body absorb iron from plant-based foods.
