😍Look who’s ready for adoption! Ivy is ready for her forever home and is being fostered in Austin!
Ivy is going to change your life! This 5 year old girl is happy, playful, and a well balanced lovebug. You can't help but fall in love with her, she will charm you with her soft coat, enthusiasm to play, and sweet disposition. Like all GSP's she has a natural focus "hunting" and the stamina to run and play as long as you are game. She will thrive in an environment that will give her the opportunity to play tug, play ball, or just let her run. She will always prefer your affection and attention, but can occupy herself pulling patrol from pesky squirrels or other deemed threats to your household well being. She loves to snuggle (mostly in early morning and evening) and will seek you for scritches or look you in the eyes to let you know you're her person. If you allow her to share your bed, she will get as close to you as possible.
Ivy is very athletic and a joy to watch run and hunt. She's a clever girl and wants to please, any training you want to accomplish will be rewarding for both of you.
Ivy is adaptable and will do well in different environments. I have observed her with younger children and she surprised me with her behavior around autistic children. She gravitates towards young boys 7 and up. I have not observed her with younger children but there is nothing that makes me believe she would have an issue there. Of course it's always important that if there are any children in the household that they understand boundaries and the right behaviors when engaging with any dog. In saying that, I have no reservations that Ive wouldn't do well in a family environment.
Ivy likes the dog park! She wants to run and stretch those legs and needs a good solid 30 min to an hour a day of activity to do so. She is a puller on the leash... Sorry, I haven't worked with her on that but again, consistency and training should get that under control. She has escaped from me a time or two but has always come back to me, her recall is pretty decent but will improve as you bond with her. She does well with other dogs and will play well with those that engage her. (Especially the puppies) She does not seek or respond to aggressive dog behavior. She is patient and reads other dogs' cues well.
When Ivy was found she was pregnant with 13 healthy GSP's, she was an excellent mother and her temperament steady. In fact, one of her puppies is now in training to be a service dog. Although we do not know much of her prior environment conditions I can attest to her stability and that she is NOT a traumatised dog. She wants to love and be loved. She wants to be part of your life and not an afterthought. Ivy has certainly healed my heart as I have fostered her these past months and she has been a complete joy to share the hours in the day.
Other observations about Ivy : She is not reactive to fireworks or thunderstorms. She is not food aggressive ( but she loves her groceries and treats!) She is friendly to strangers but will be guarded at first, If you're ok she's ok! Like any situation with new introductions, create a positive neutral environment. Does great in the car but wants to be up front. Barriers are recommended if that bothers you. She does like "people food" but is not a known counter surfer. Does excellent with recall in a controlled environment and will do well (off leash) as you work with her. I recommend if you do off leash with her to ensure it is a safe area away from distractions or busy streets. She is a prey drive dog so off leash will always be risky.
I can't think of one reason that Ivy wouldn't make an excellent family member. Like any foster she'll need consistency, stability and time to decompress to a new home environment. I can guarantee you that you'll soon bond with each other and wonder how you ever did without her. Come meet her and see for yourself!
Ivy is Heartworm positive but has been on treatment. Rescue will continue covering her treatment until she is Heartworm negative.
