A wedding dress. A scholarship. A full-circle moment. 💙

Years ago, Better ATX volunteer Dorothy mentored Sandra through our Scholars Program. Even after she graduated, they stayed connected and built a friendship that has lasted for years.

Recently, Dorothy gifted her 1968 wedding dress to Sandra’s 13 year old daughter, Kathia, creating a special connection between generations.

What makes this story so meaningful is that the impact of mentorship continues far beyond the program itself.

Sandra went on to earn multiple degrees and build a successful career. Today, Kathia is thriving as a scholar-athlete, excelling in the classroom, and creating a bright future of her own.

Sometimes the impact of a scholarship goes far beyond education. It creates relationships, opportunities, and connections that can last a lifetime. ✨

Since 2007, Diane has helped process thousands of donated shoes alongside our back room team by cleaning, sizing, pricing, and preparing them for the sales floor. From everyday staples to brand-new designer finds, she’s seen firsthand just how many amazing treasures come through our doors.

Thanks to Diane’s hard work and care, shoppers are able to find quality shoes at affordable prices while supporting programs that give back to the Austin community.

Meet Vicki + Dot, the co-dept. heads behind our Toy Department at Better ATX. 🧸

From discovering unique toy donations to helping make them feel almost new again, these two bring so much care, joy, and heart to what they do.

For Vicki, volunteering is rewarding because every toy sold helps support Better ATX’s philanthropic programs while bringing happiness to someone else. For Dot, it’s about purpose, friendship, and “playing with toys all day.” 💛

Together, they’ve been volunteering with Better ATX for over a decade and continue to make an incredible impact behind the scenes.
