Wonders & Worries

Wonders & Worries Free, professional support for children and teenagers facing a parent’s serious illness or injury. Services are available nationwide.

We help families navigate life’s hardest moments together—because no child should go through a parent’s illness alone. The impact of a parent’s serious illness or injury on a child can be profound. It can affect their mental health, family functioning, school performance, friendships, growth and development, and overall adjustment. Wonders & Worries provides free, professional support for children

and teenagers through a parent’s serious illness or injury, so that they can reach their full potential. Our Certified Child Life Specialists counsel children and teenagers in understanding the situation and helping them cope. We give parents the resources and support to help their family work through a health crisis. All Wonders & Worries services are offered free of charge – and are available in English and Spanish.

Father’s Day can mean a lot of different things to different people and we want to honor all of it. 💙

Whether you’re celebrating a dad, stepping into that role for someone else, missing a father figure today, or navigating a more complicated relationship with the day, we’re thinking of you.

To every father, father figure, and person who shows up for kids in big and small ways, thank you.

There are so many ways to show up for the children and families we serve and Kynan Dancy’s story is proof of that.

Kynan found Wonders & Worries through a personal connection to our mission, and knew right away he wanted to be part of the work. So he joined our board.

Whether it’s donating, attending an event, serving on our board, or simply sharing our mission. Every form of involvement makes a real difference. Your involvement, in any form, helps children, teenagers, and families thrive through one of life’s hardest seasons.

What a wonderful few days in the Pacific Northwest! The Wonders & Worries team had an incredible time connecting with conference participants at our booth, sharing meaningful conversations about supporting children and teenagers when a parent faces serious illness or injury.

Our Co-founder Missi, soaked up valuable insights from oncology social workers across the country, and our National Outreach Coordinator, Julie, co-presented alongside two oncology social workers from Atlanta Cancer Care on self-awareness, self-care, and sustainability in helping roles.

AOSW 2026 was an impactful few days. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth we can’t wait to continue these conversations!

We are saddened to share the passing of Dr. Garry Landreth, a world-renowned play therapist, educator, and one of the most influential voices in child-centered care.

Dr. Landreth's legacy lives within the walls of W&W. Our playrooms are modeled after his child-centered play therapy playrooms, his condensed Child-Parent Relationship Training (CPRT) is offered by our team to further support young families through incredibly difficult times, and his philosophy and "rules of thumb" are regularly shared by our staff.

His teachings on how to truly be with children, to follow their lead, hold space for their experiences, and offer unconditional acceptance through the power of relationship have shaped the way our team shows up for every family we serve.

We’re back with another office tour! We’re giving you a look inside one of our other Austin locations, our Westlake office. This warm, home-like space was designed with our families in mind.

Every detail of this space is intentional. Our playroom is stocked with everything our Child Life Specialists need to support children through their sessions, including a medical play area to help kids make sense of what their parent may be going through. For our older kids and teens, we also have a quieter, more peaceful room where they can feel comfortable and at ease.

Watch the full tour on out YouTube!

We’re so grateful to the ONS San Antonio chapter for choosing Wonders & Worries for their San Antonio community project.

Thanks to the generosity of our San Antonio community, we have been receiving much needed items off our wish list. These supplies will be used directly in sessions with children and teenagers as they learn about a parent’s serious illness or injury, process difficult emotions, and build healthy coping skills.

Every item donated helps us create meaningful moments of support, understanding, and resilience for the families we serve. Thank you for making a difference!

Summer doesn’t always mean big trips or busy schedules, especially when a family member is managing an illness or other life changes. But even small moments can turn into special memories.

Create a Summer Adventure Jar together! Grab a jar and some scraps of paper. Each time someone thinks of a fun idea, big or small, write it down and drop it in. Ideas can be simple: take a hike, have a picnic, build a fort, or sleep under the stars in the backyard.

Then, on a good day when time and energy allow, pull an idea from the jar and enjoy an adventure, no planning stress required!

You can get additional inspiration from the book The Adventure Jar: A Story of Magic for Families Living with Metastatic Breast Cancer created by Gilead Sciences.

You can download a free digital copy or can order a free book here: https://www.expose-mbc.com/support-for-families.

This is a great way to focus on possibility, joy, and spontaneity all summer long.
