Congratulations to Senator-elect Troy Jackson, Governor-elect Hannah Pingree, and Rep. Chellie Pingree!! Mainers have used their voices—and their votes—to say we are done with hate and division and ready for leaders who share our values and will fight for us in Augusta and DC!

We're still waiting on the results of the CD2 race and will hopefully hear some good news soon! Let's go Matt Dunlap!!

Spirits are high and the vibes are good in MPA's offices (and group chats) today! We are SO excited by yesterday's election results and so grateful to everyone who worked to make these historic wins possible. Here is our official response, attributable to Co-Director Amy Halsted:

This election season, Maine People’s Alliance knocked on more than 150,000 doors, and we heard over and over what the November 3rd election results also reflect: Mainers want elected leaders who have their priorities straight. And that’s who we’ve voted for, along with voters around the country.

Families are struggling to afford healthcare, housing, childcare, groceries and heat, and they’ve had enough of politicians who try to blame our problems on immigrants, trans kids, or anyone else.

We elected Hannah Pingree, and expanded Democratic majorities in the state legislature. We put Troy Jackson in the Senate, and helped make Democrats the majority. Because Mainers know that the billions of dollars Congressional Republicans allocated for ICE’s secret police on our streets have come at the expense of our families’ healthcare. We know tax cuts for the rich haven’t helped anyone pay the rent or afford to heat their home this winter.

We want leaders who will fight for bold solutions to the most pressing issues of our time — not moderate half measures or racial scapegoating. Yesterday, Mainers and Americans proved they are willing to fight for these kinds of leaders, and they made history.

One of the best things about Election Day is how many people we get to talk to! Today we’ve been tabling at polling locations talking to people about taxing the rich and knocking on doors to get out the vote. And our members in the Maine Veterans Alliance and Multifaith Justice Maine have been outside the polls to be friendly faces as people head in to cast their votes!

Remember, polls close at 8! If you’re in line by 8, you can’t be turned away.

Happy Election Day!! Here are some things to remember:

- Polls will be open until 8 p.m.
- You can register to vote at the polls today!
- Return your absentee ballot to your city or town hall or to an official drop box by 8 p.m.
- If you’re facing an unexpected emergency, such as hospitalization, and can’t get to the polls, you can call your city or town hall to request a Special Circumstances Ballot.

We'll be at polls all over the state today talking to voters about taxing the rich, so if you see us, swing by our table after you vote to say hello and sign up to learn more!

Early voting ends today (Oct. 29)! Make sure to get to your city or town hall before 5 pm if you want to skip the lines on Tuesday. Today is also the last day to request your absentee ballot! And while it's too late to mail it back, you can return your ballot at a dropbox or city/town hall until Election Day.

Election Day is one week from today!! But if you want to beat the lines, there’s still time to vote early, just like our Western Maine community organizer Mike and his wife Kathryn did last week!

Early voting takes place through Thursday, Oct. 29 at your town or city hall. After that, you can vote early by returning your absentee ballot to town/city hall or to an absentee ballot drop box anytime between now and Election Day. Tonight in Portland!! We need people to show up on Zoom at 5 pm to urge the City Council to find a winter warming shelter on the peninsula and not divert money away from opioid abatement in the city.

Portland City Council is expected to vote on a proposal to spend $900,000 in opioid settlement funds on a winter warming shelter at 166 Riverside Industrial Parkway. Those funds are meant to be spent on treating Opioid Use Disorder, prevention programming, recovery centers, and more. Opioid settlement funds are often misused, taking care and resources away from people who need them. Please join us in urging City Council to find an alternate location and funding source!

Early voting is underway and some of our Lewiston members went to City Hall today to cast their votes! You can vote early at your city or town hall anytime between now and next Thursday, Oct. 29.

You can also drop off your absentee ballot anytime between now and Election Day—Tuesday, Nov. 3—at your city or town hall, or at an official drop box!
