Just Love Worldwide is standing with our friends at Survivor Leadership to ask you to please sign on to the attached letter urging the court to allow treatment-not incarceration.
In 2022, 15 year old Pieper pled guilty to killing her adult s*x buyer who drugged and r***d her over a 3-day period. She was ordered to pay her s*x buyer's family $150,000 in restitution. The judge ultimately granted her probation with a deferred judgement. Unfortunately the out of state placement she was sent to was not a good fit and Pieper was eventually kicked out of the program, triggering a probation violation that could lead to her being forced to serve her 20 year sentence. Currently she is in Polk County Jail in lowa with a hearing
scheduled for February 20th, 2026.
We ask that you support Pieper Lewis by using the QR codes above to access the sign-on letter for her attorneys to share with the judge overseeing Pieper's case to urge the court to recognize her actions in the context of her extreme trauma and to opt for services instead of continued incarceration.

Tuesday, Just Love Worldwide's Executive Director, Tricia Grant, shared from her experience as a s*x trafficking survivor in Maine at the state house for bill LD 2168- An Act to Increase Accountability for Persons Engaged in Commercial S*xual Exploitation and Human Trafficking and to Support Victims.

Pictured here is Michael Shively (NCOSE) and Rep. Holly Stover who sponsored the bill.

LD 2168 is crucial because it increases financial accountability for those convicted of purchasing s*x and participating in trafficking-related offenses. The funds generated from these fines will be directed into the Victims’ Compensation Fund, which is essential for meeting the needs of survivors like Tricia. This bill aligns with evidence-based approaches that prioritize reducing demand for s*xual exploitation by increasing consequences for buyers while ensuring that victims are not criminalized.
Passage of LD 2168 would mean more consistent, victim-centered funding for survivors across the state. It provides a targeted, practical way to hold exploiters accountable while strengthening Maine’s response to trafficking. By supporting this bill, the Legislature can help ensure that survivors have access to the resources they need to rebuild their lives.

This is a major step forward for survivors in Maine. A new law effective this month allows survivors of s*x trafficking and s*xual exploitation to seal criminal records for acts they were forced into. This removes barriers to housing, employment, and healing. This survivor-driven policy passed with bipartisan support and reflects years of advocacy and lived experience. We’re proud to stand with our partners and grateful to the Maine Legislature for making this change possible!

MCEDV is celebrating that one of our priority policy initiatives for Maine’s 132nd Legislature, “An Act to Permit Sealing Criminal History Record Information of Victims of S*x Trafficking or S*xual Exploitation,” became law on January 11th. The majority of s*x trafficking survivors have criminal records. These records limit housing, economic, and social opportunities, impairing healing and economic stability. Through this new law, Maine will join more than 40 other states in providing a pathway for criminal record relief for victims of s*x trafficking and s*xual exploitation for acts they were compelled to take as a result of the pattern and nature of the crime committed against them.

In FY2025, Maine’s Domestic Violence Resource Centers worked with 225 survivors of s*x trafficking and s*xual exploitation in every corner of our state. Our network was proud to lead this effort with our colleagues at Survivor Speak USA, the ACLU of Maine, and the Maine Coalition Against S*xual Assault, to advocate for the relief these survivors have consistently told us is needed to effectively rebuild their lives.

Thank you to the Maine Legislature for their resounding and bi-partisan support of this policy change, and sponsor Senator Rachel Talbot Ross for her commitment to seeing the work started by the late Representative Lois Reckitt across the finish line.

FILM SYNOPSIS- The Right Track is a gripping documentary that shines light on the relentless fight to end s*x trafficking and s*xual exploitation across North America. At its core is the movement to bring awareness to and drive legislative support for the Survivor Model at the state and federal level—a transformative approach that decriminalizes prostituted individuals while maintaining strict penalties for pimps, traffickers, and s*x buyers who drive the commercial s*x industry.
Through powerful narratives from survivors, advocates, policymakers, and law enforcement, the film delves into the heart of the crisis, revealing the courage that survivors require to escape “the life” and rebuild, either off the track or out of the brothel system. It explores what’s needed to bring traffickers and buyers to justice and how trafficking thrives not just in far flung places, but right in our own neighborhoods. The Right Track is both a call to action and a testament to the resilience of survivors fighting for change.
