Maine Archaeological Society

Maine Archaeological Society The Maine Archaeological Society (MAS) was founded in 1956. To promote and encourage scientific research in this field.

Membership includes professional archaeologists, avocational archaeologists, as well as individuals of the general public who are interested in furthering the objectives of the society. The objectives of the MAS are as follows:

To stimulate the study of archaeology throughout the State of Maine and elsewhere. To conserve archaeological sites, data, and artifacts. To assist in the dissemination of

archaeological information. To seek through education to substitute intelligent work for careless and misdirected archaeological activity. To seek to prevent the collection of archaeological specimens for commercial purposes. To serve as a bond among all students of archaeology. To foster a more rational public understanding of the aims and limits of archaeological research to the benefit of the people the State of Maine as a whole. The Maine Archaeological Society, Incorporated, is not organized for profit and no property or profit of the corporation shall inure to the benefit of any person, partnership or corporation except in the furtherance of the benevolent or nonprofit-making purposes of the corporation. The Maine Archaeological Society is 501(3)c non-profit organization.
