Georgia Reads launches Georgia Reads Week with one simple challenge: take a few minutes to read with a child or share a favorite story. As you read, ask, “What do you think will happen next?” One book and one moment together can help build stronger readers, families and communities.

There’s nothing more powerful than seeing Reach Out and Read in action. ❤️📚

Yesterday, we were honored to welcome the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation for a site visit at Old 4th Ward Pediatrics and to share firsthand how our pediatric partners use books and the power of reading to support children and families during well-child visits.

Old 4th Ward Pediatrics joined Reach Out and Read five years ago through funding from the United Way of Greater Atlanta, made possible by the Joseph B. Whitehead Foundation. Since then, their providers have distributed 26,123 new children’s books during well-child visits! 🩺👨‍⚕️

Throughout our visit, we spent time with physicians, staff and parents and watched Reach Out and Read come to life in the exam room. Providers shared how much families appreciate the gift of a new book and how children look forward to receiving one at every visit. More importantly, they see how introducing a book can spark engagement and strengthen the connection between a parent and child. 🤍

We are incredibly grateful to the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation for spending time with us and seeing this work firsthand, and to the wonderful team at Old 4th Ward Pediatrics for making Reach Out and Read an important part of the care they provide every day. They always go above and beyond! ⭐️

Training the next generation of clinicians is one of the ways we offer programmatic assistance to residency programs across Georgia. 🩺🤍

At Morehouse Family Medicine Residency, residents are learning how to integrate Reach Out and Read into the pediatric well visit—not as something extra, but as a powerful clinical tool.

A book creates a natural opportunity to offer anticipatory guidance, observe developmental milestones and parent-child interaction, and open conversations with families that new clinicians are learning how to navigate. Residents see firsthand how something as simple as a book can help bridge the conversation between clinician, caregiver, and child.

When we train clinicians to use books and shared reading as part of pediatric care from the beginning of their careers, we help make Reach Out and Read a routine part of how they practice medicine.

That’s how we build the next generation of clinicians—and help change pediatric care for the next generation of children. ❤️

Reach Out and Read joins millions around the world in mourning the loss of Dolly Parton and extends our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and the entire Dollywood Foundation and Imagination Library team. 🤍

Dolly’s legacy reaches far beyond her extraordinary music. She understood the power of books to open doors for children. She used her platform for good by bringing a national spotlight to literacy and millions of books into the homes and hands of young children. She inspired everyone to dream big and be unapologetically true to yourself. She was generous, smart, kind and uniquely gifted. 🌟

📚Summer reading is better together! 🎉

Each summer, Reach Out and Read Georgia is proud to partner with GEEARS: Georgia Early Education Alliance for Ready Students to bring the Mayor’s Summer Reading Club into the pediatric practices and communities we serve.

This year, thanks to GEEARS’ generous donation of 1,950 books, the partnership reached 18 Reach Out and Read Metro Atlanta pediatric sites. Five sites hosted special MSRC events curated and led by Reach Out and Read staff and volunteers, 10 sites received and distributed books along with printed activity sheets, and all 18 sites received electronic activity resources to extend the fun and learning beyond the clinic. 🩺

What makes this partnership especially powerful is the Reach Out and Read model itself. Because our medical providers have trusted, repeated access to both young children and their parents and caregivers, pediatric practices are a natural community hub for reaching families with books, literacy resources, and guidance about reading together. That unique access makes Reach Out and Read uniquely poised to turn a summer reading initiative into meaningful family engagement—meeting families where they already are and reinforcing that reading together supports healthy development, relationships, and school readiness. 🌟

A huge THANK YOU to GEEARS for 1,950 books and for continuing to partner with us to put more stories—and more opportunities to learn, connect, and grow—into the hands of Georgia children and families. 💛📖

Pediatricians across Gwinnett County are embracing Reach Out and Read—and with the program’s soaring popularity and significant expansion, more young children and families are experiencing the power of books and trusted guidance during routine pediatric visits. 🩺

Thanks to a $50,000 grant from Fulton County Government, Fulton County children like this one receive a brand-new book along with coaching and guidance at every well-child visit, starting from birth! 📚👶🩵

This funding is a powerful recognition of our impact in the community. Funding is in part by the Fulton County Commissioners, under the guidance of the Department of Community Development CSP Program. ⭐️✨♥️

This grant will help support programmatic oversight, training and the distribution of brand-new books to children across 22 hospitals and pediatric offices in Fulton County to promote early literacy and school readiness. 🩺👩🏽‍⚕️🏥📚

It was an exciting day at Sanford Stadium on the University of Georgia campus for Reach Out and Read Georgia! ❤️🖤

We are incredibly proud to be named a 2026 Kirby Smart Family Foundation grant recipient! Celebrating alongside Coach Kirby and Mary Beth Smart, foundation board members, football players and nonprofit leaders making a difference across Georgia made the day even more meaningful.

A special highlight was meeting so many outstanding young men from the University of Georgia football team. We loved hearing their personal stories, learning who has influenced their lives, and discovering why giving back is important to them. At the heart of many of their stories was the powerful role their mother played in shaping who they are—something that connects so meaningfully with our work supporting children, families, and the parent-child bond.

It was also wonderful to run into our friend Malcolm Mitchell, former Super Bowl Champion and University of Georgia football player and now Georgia Reads Literacy Coach!

Special thanks to Anna DeFabio, UGA Director of Football Operations, for bringing this incredible event together. It was exceptional from start to finish. We are deeply grateful to be a grant recipient and look forward to cheering on the Dawgs in just a few weeks!
