This summer, the U.S. says it’s welcoming the world for the FIFA World Cup, but in reality, it’s abducting people off the street, illegally and inhumanely detaining them, and deporting them without cause.
While the City of Atlanta wants us to celebrate as a World Cup host city, there are people held in cages just a half mile away in what was never intended to be a detention facility. None of this is ok. Human dignity is not situational. It cannot be respected abroad and ignored at home – or vice versa. And we demand better.
Save the date for action on June 21st when we put a spotlight on the abuse and hypocrisy of this regime. The world is watching – let’s show them the truth.
Video Visual Description:
The clip is framed with torn, white paper with black text reading “Coming June 21st”. Suspenseful music begins playing building momentum. Centered on the screen is a soccer ball sitting on a green, grassy turf with stadium lights shining above. As the clip slowly zooms in on the soccer ball, the words “Project World Cup Spotlight” appear in the foreground. The words on the screen begin fading when suddenly, an image of jail cell bars descend on the screen with the sound of a heavy metal gate clanging shut giving the illusion that the soccer ball and field are now locked in a cage. The words "World Cup Spotlight" now fade away and new text appears at the bottom of the screen reading “Stay Tuned”.
