Supporting Grady Health System and the community of Greater Atlanta

Founded in 1993, Grady Health Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 public charity that was formed to encourage corporations, foundations, and individual citizens to invest in the continued health and well-being of Atlanta through this vital public resource. Continuing in the spirit of its founders and leading the health system’s first major Capital Campaign, Grady Health Foundation was charged in 2008 with updating and re-engaging the community to support the metro-region’s premier Level I Trauma Center and the southeast’s largest public hospital. In alignment with Grady’s primary mission of caring for those traditionally without health coverage, the hospital was able to give $227 million in uncompensated care to those in need in 2011.

As Atlanta celebrates Pride Month, we'd like to highlight the work happening at Grady's Ponce Center to improve the health of our community.

The Ponce Center provides HIV prevention and treatment services that help remove barriers to care, including access to medical visits, laboratory services and medications. Every new infection prevented strengthens families, reduces healthcare disparities, and moves our community closer to ending an epidemic that has affected Atlanta for decades.

40 years ago, Grady opened the Ponce De Leon Center, committed to providing expert HIV/AIDS care to those who needed it most.

Today, that commitment serves more than 11,500 patients annually, many of whom face significant economic barriers to accessing healthcare.

This Pride Month, we're proud to recognize the impact the Ponce Center has on research, prevention and treatment aimed at stopping the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Imagine witnessing a disease go from a devastating diagnosis to a chronic condition that many people can successfully manage.

That's the transformation Grady's Ponce Center has helped make possible.

When Grady opened the Ponce Center in 1986, HIV/AIDS was claiming lives across our community. Today, the center is one of the nation's leading HIV care programs, providing treatment, prevention, and support services that help people live longer, healthier lives.

As CEO John Haupert shares in this video, the progress over the past four decades has been extraordinary. From scientific breakthroughs to innovative treatments, countless lives have been changed.

But there is still work to do. Georgia continues to face significant challenges in the fight against HIV, making access to care, prevention, and education more important than ever.
