Kate's Club Empowering children and teens, their families, and young adults who are grieving

Since 2003, Kate's Club has created healing communities that allow grieving children and their families to have fun, express their emotions, remember their loved ones, develop healthy coping skills, and know that they are not alone. We are the only organization in Metro Atlanta that provides long-term therapeutic and recreational support for grieving children, and 100% of our kids would recommend Kate's Club to a friend who is grieving. It's a misconception to think of Kate's Club as a sad place simply because we're a grief services organization. More often than not, when you enter a Kate's Club program, you see smiles and hear laughter. And for the somber moments, we're grateful that the sad moments are shared with peers and mentors instead of experienced alone.

Our Director of Education & Innovative Programs, Lane Pease Hendricks, celebrates her 14-year work anniversary at Kate's Club today! Lane does everything from grief trainings to supporting LoKate, our young adult program.

“When I joined Kate’s Club in 2012, we had four team members and served about 70 children each month at our Atlanta Clubhouse. It's been gratifying to be part of our growth. Today, we serve hundreds of children across Georgia and support young adults from around the country and even beyond. Through our trainings, we also help others better support grieving people in their own communities.

At its heart, though, the work is still the same. Fourteen years later, I still love making a difference in the life of a grieving child or adult. Through all the growth and change, what means the most to me is that we’re still creating a world in which it’s okay to grieve.” - Lane.

“Now it’s like, there are a few waves. They come; they go. But for the most part, you can see the horizon, you can see the sun.” — Luke

On World Mental Health Day, Luke’s story reminds us of the importance of having space to talk about grief, express difficult emotions, and find support. 💙

Luke has experienced several significant losses throughout his life. After his older brother died by su***de, substance use changed the dynamics of his home. Years later, his older sister died from an overdose. Luke also experienced the deaths of both of his parents before he turned 30.

Through therapy and Kate’s Club, Luke found support to better understand his grief, speak openly about difficult emotions, and connect with people who could relate to his experiences.

By sharing his story, Luke hopes to turn his pain into something positive and remind children, teens, and young adults that they do not have to navigate grief alone.

Today, we encourage you to check in with yourself and the people you care about. Whatever your grief looks like, you deserve connection, compassion, and support.

“Community” is the word Kristen uses to describe Memory Walk. 🫂

At her first Memory Walk, Kristen realized it was a space where grief, remembrance, connection, and joy could exist together. That inspired her to bring Memory Walk to Northeast Georgia so more families could experience that same sense of community.

Join Kate’s Club for the 2026 Memory Walk on Sunday, November 8, from 2–5 p.m. at Wire Park in Watkinsville, Georgia or from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Blackburn Park in Brookhaven, Georgia.

📣 Volunteer Spotlight!

Shanice started volunteering with Kate's Club in 2015, and since that first program, she has volunteered over 933 hours to support our grief support programs!

"The kids bring me back time and time again. Picturing all the teenagers who I met when they were 7 or 8 years old. I cried today thinking about the hole in their hearts that we can't fix, but we can be there with them." - Shanice

We are so grateful to the over 30 volunteers from Omnissa Workspace ONE for spending their afternoon volunteering with us! This amazing group helped paint our bookshelves, paint our free little libraries, and even built a Gaga Ball Pit for our kids to play in at the clubhouse! 🎨

Check out the last picture to see the Gaga Ball Pit in action! 🤸
