Ever tried wheelchair basketball? Now's your chance.

Champions for Life, presented by the Atlanta Committee for the Israel ParaSport Center with support from JAccess, is a free, family-friendly wheelchair basketball exhibition taking place on Sunday, August 30, from 3:00–5:00 PM at the MJCCA.

Meet elite Israeli athletes Asael Shabo and Ibrahim Baho, hear their inspiring stories, learn about adaptive sports and disability inclusion, and even try wheelchair basketball for yourself.

After 20 years and 14 marathons, Therese Kuvaas thought she knew what running was all about.

Then, one conversation changed her entire perspective.

While attending an endurance event, Therese heard Brent Pease share the story of growing up with his brother Kyle, who lives with cerebral palsy, and their drive to ensure people in wheelchairs had equal access to sports.

As Therese prepared for her 15th marathon, she realized she wanted her training to serve a greater purpose. She signed up as a push-assist teammate with The Kyle Pease Foundation and teamed up with athlete Josh Porter for the Publix Atlanta Half Marathon.

Crossing that finish line together delivered a feeling far deeper than any personal record:

"When you are out there on the course, you quickly realize you aren't just pushing a chair, you are moving forward together as a single unit. I might be providing the physical leverage with my legs, but the heart, the grit, and the spirit driving us through those tough miles come straight from my teammate in the chair."

Beyond the racecourse, Therese runs to set a lasting example for her two teenage daughters, proving that true inclusion isn't just a policy on paper, but an action.
