📚 Summer reading isn’t just about keeping busy, it’s about building confidence, expanding possibilities, and discovering new worlds!

When Damani joined our Productive Struggle program at McNair Middle School, he was looking to strengthen his reading skills. Today, he’s reading more challenging books, improving his comprehension, and encouraging other students to take the same step 👏🏽

This summer, we challenge students, families, and community members to pick up a book đź“• and make reading part of their routine. Every page turned is progress.

As Damani puts it, if you’re struggling with reading, “you should definitely try it out” because it can help you improve and become a better reader.

Juneteenth is more than a celebration of freedom.. it is a reminder that knowledge has always been a pathway to liberation.

For generations, books, stories, and education have preserved our history, amplified our voices, and empowered communities to create change. As we honor June 19, 1865, we also honor the educators, authors, activists, and young readers who continue to carry that legacy forward.

At the C.T. Vivian Foundation, we believe literacy is a civil rights issue. When we invest in reading, we invest in opportunity, leadership, and the future.
