Sometimes, digital inclusion starts with a single opportunity, and its effects can extend well beyond a screen. The theme for this year’s Digital Inclusion Week, “Sustain, Empower, Evolve,” emphasizes the need to create access that enables people to keep learning, growing, and pursuing their goals. Ms. Knight’s experience exemplifies this impact. After finishing classes through Atlanta Mission, she found her way to City of Refuge and Inspiredu, where one chance led to increased confidence, connections, and new possibilities.

Before getting a laptop, Ms. Knight depended on her iPad, visited libraries and coworking spaces, and spent hours juggling various tasks to apply for jobs and create her resume. The process was tiring and complicated her efforts to achieve these goals.

Inspiredu’s digital skills workshops transformed that experience, making the laptop the key tool. Ms. Knight learned to build a resume and portfolio, navigate LinkedIn, apply for jobs more efficiently, stay safe online, and use technology with greater confidence. That confidence created momentum, leading to a new chapter of employment as a Brand Ambassador with the Atlanta Hawks.

Ms. Knight’s development persisted beyond that point. Attending another Inspiredu workshop on financial skills was especially meaningful for her. Having previously managed her finances manually, she now acquired practical tools to budget, save time, and maintain her finances.

Ms. Knight is now actively sharing her knowledge with those around her. She helps her mom gain confidence with technology, advises her siblings on online safety, and supports friends and peers in her cohort.

Ms. Knight’s journey reflects what can happen when opportunity meets determination. What began with access to a laptop has grown into greater confidence, new skills, employment, financial empowerment, and the ability to help others along the way.

A brighter digital future starts when individuals have access to the right tools, skills, and support. This embodies this year’s Digital Inclusion Week theme, “Sustain, Empower, Evolve.” Mrs. Favor came to Inspiredu while rebuilding her life after a kidney transplant and looking for a way forward. As she worked to support herself and build a business, Inspiredu helped her gain technology and digital skills to turn her ideas into reality.

Through City of Refuge and Inspiredu, Mrs. Favor gained access to technology and participated in workshops to build practical digital skills. Owning her own device transformed her perspective on what is achievable. With greater confidence and the right tools, she began researching, refining her ideas, and taking concrete steps to realize her vision.

That journey ultimately led to the creation of Oasis Holistic Lifestyle LLC, where Favor launched her first culinary creation: Organic Azuki Bean Soup with Coconut Milk and Probiotics.

What began as an idea has now grown into something tangible. Mrs. Favor has participated in three health fairs, gathered more than 170 customer comments and reviews, and is preparing to bring her products to customers at the Serenbe Farmers’ Market.

However, the most significant impact of the experience extends beyond her new business. With her newfound skills and confidence, Mrs. Favor rediscovered a sense of possibility and the power to take more control of her future. She recognizes the importance of practical digital skills and believes they can empower others to gain confidence and advance in their lives.

Mrs. Favor’s story highlights that a fresh start begins with access to essential tools and the confidence to utilize them. Whether rebuilding, shifting careers, exploring new opportunities, or seeking direction, digital inclusion can turn potential into tangible progress.

This year’s Digital Inclusion Week theme, “Sustain, Empower, Evolve: Building a Brighter Digital Future,” emphasizes that digital equity starts with giving individuals the chance to gain the skills, tools, and confidence necessary to succeed in a changing world. For Ms. Tejada, that chance was provided through a laptop from Inspiredu. After facing difficulties completing her school assignments due to unreliable access to a device, she now has the independence to learn on her own terms and the confidence to continue progressing toward her future.

Having her own reliable laptop has given Ms. Tejada peace of mind and flexibility in her education. She no longer needs to coordinate her schoolwork around computer lab schedules or make trips to school just to use a device. Now, she can carry her laptop wherever she needs to study, allowing her to decide when and where to learn.

Ms. Tejada's participation in Inspiredu’s digital skills workshop boosted her confidence in navigating online systems, creating shortcuts, safeguarding her personal information, and understanding cloud usage. These digital skills help her feel more prepared and capable as she pursues her education.

For Ms. Tejada, digital access is about more than just owning a computer. It encompasses the freedom to learn, the confidence to face new challenges, and the resources to continue pursuing her goals.

It’s officially Digital Inclusion Week 2026! This week, we are proud to embrace the theme "Sustain, Empower, Evolve: Building a Brighter Digital Future."

Digital Inclusion Week highlights the importance of ensuring everyone can participate in our increasingly digital society. Digital inclusion involves more than just access to devices or the internet; it encompasses having dependable technology, necessary digital skills, and confidence to explore online spaces safely and independently. As technology plays a vital role in education, communication, and daily life, having the right tools can create significant opportunities. This week serves as a reminder that with adequate resources and support, technology can foster greater independence, learning, connection, and opportunities for all.

For Mrs. Davis, a recent attendee at an Inspiredu Family Learning Workshop, that opportunity significantly aids her son, who is autistic and gets extra support at school. Prior to receiving a laptop from Inspiredu, he had to use smaller tablets for his assignments at home because his mother’s work computer wasn’t accessible.

After the Davis family attended the Inspiredu workshop, Mrs. Davis’s son now has his own laptop that he can use more easily for schoolwork. The laptop is a dependable tool that supports her son’s education and promotes greater independence in his learning.

Mrs. Davis also acquired important skills from Inspiredu’s digital workshop, such as understanding applications better and exploring online safety tips. These skills are now helping her feel more confident in guiding her son as he develops his digital skills.

Mrs. Davis’s story highlights the potential of digital inclusion. Often, significant change starts with something as straightforward as having the right device and knowing how to use it. For the Davis family, this access is opening more opportunities to learn and progress together.

This September, Inspiredu’s Digital Summit will bring together community leaders, industry experts, and innovators to provide digital access through education. The Summit will feature engaging, informative, and inspiring breakout sessions focused on digital opportunities framed by the UN’s Global Goals. We’ll explore how technology, education, and collaboration can strengthen communities and create meaningful opportunities through 2030. Through the Inspiredu x SMASH Digital Literacy Workshop, SMASH Atlanta scholars received digital literacy training and laptop access to help them stay connected, complete assignments, and build skills for the future.

For Mr. Gerald, a high school student and SMASH scholar, having his own laptop will make schoolwork easier, especially when assignments require multiple websites, online tools, or educational videos that may not always be accessible on a school-issued device.

The workshop also helped strengthen key digital skills. Mr. Gerald shared that he gained a deeper understanding of online safety, including how to recognize phishing attempts and pay closer attention to links that may look legitimate but could put personal information at risk. He also explored financial literacy topics, including the importance of credit and how it can affect future opportunities.

With this device, Mr. Gerald is already thinking about what comes next. He hopes to revisit coding, continue exploring Python, and build on his interests in computer science and financial literacy.

The Inspiredu x SMASH workshop was a successful step toward greater access, confidence, and opportunity for students preparing for their futures.
