History of Black Gay America, Inc is a premiere organization that honors, preserves & archives the legacy and contributions of LGBT People of Color.

Evolving from the success of its origin, History of Black Gay Atlanta,and its current online tv & radio talk show, this premiere non-profit is designed to assist and support LGBT Communities of color in Honoring, Preserving and Recognizing the numerous contributions of individuals and businesses who pioneered and currently support the advancement, evolution and progression of the National Black LG

We mourn the stolen life of Jayla McGee 🕯️

Jayla was a 19-year-old Black transgender girl who was shot and killed on July 5th in Belle Glade, Florida. Her family and friends held a candlelight vigil on July 18th, and the outpouring of love in her memory was undeniable. The Palm Beach Sheriff's Office is investigating her death as a homicide. No motive or suspect has been identified.

Local media has barely covered Jayla's story.

"My heart breaks for Jayla and all those who loved her," said Victoria Kirby York, NBJC's Director of Public Policy and Programs. "Unfortunately, the facts of this case, Jayla's young age, being deadnamed and misgendered by police, and a lack of media coverage, are all too common in the violent deaths of trans community members."

We remember Jayla not just in her death, but in her life. She deserved to be seen, protected, and celebrated.

As those in power push narratives that erase and endanger trans people, we fight back with empathy, solidarity, and action.
