Connecting people with our public lands extends beyond the teaching of natural history and science. Creativity and art is another amazing way to do this, made even more accessible by using something almost all of us already have: our smartphones!

With the help of Aubrey Laughlin, Arts & Advocacy resident artist, participants explored a part of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument in an attempt to capture of small moment of its beauty through photography.

This program was made possible by the Conservation Lands Foundation.

We are so happy to share some of the amazing photographs taken by participants at our Smartphone Nature Photography Workshop led by Aubrey Laughlin, 2026 Arts & Advocacy resident artist.

All of these photos were taken with simple smartphones, a little luck, and patience and knowledge to get just the right shot!

Happy National Public Lands Day! We had a great time working with volunteers and Monument staff to install new directional and interpretive signage at the Buck Rock Tunnel trail system.

With over 12 miles of trails through diverse landscapes, you can explore a unique historical site while enjoying the lowest elevation hike in the Monument.

Thank you to everyone who keeps our public lands protected and lends a hand to improve them.

Join us for a National Public Lands Day of service at one of the Monument's most storied spots: the Buck Rock tunnel trail system. This year, volunteers will help improve navigational signage along the trail, making it easier for visitors to explore the tunnel, its history, and the surrounding landscape.
