One of the best ways to connect to our public lands is through a pencil, pen, or paintbrush. Working in plein air forces you to slow down and take in the beauty of a landscape, from the tiny details of a flower's anatomy to sweeping shapes and shades of a vista.

On Saturday, local artists joined Sarah Burns, Cascade-Siskiyou Arts & Advocacy Resident, for a Plein Air workshop on a bracingly beautiful day in the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument.

This program is part of Cascade-Siskiyou Creations: Arts and Advocacy program, centering women artists in the Monument, with support from Conservation Lands Foundation

Calling all community scientists! This weekend we’re launching Project MARIPOSA, the Monument Assessment of Rare and Invasive Plant Occupancy in Sensitive Areas.

Join us to document rare plants and invasive species using iNaturalist. Your observations put real people power on the ground, helping protect rare plants and track invasives across the Monument. No experience needed, just curiosity and a phone.

We’re joined by Lisa Spangler, our 2026 Monument Artist in Residence and botanical illustrator, who will bring her botanical illustration skills to both the Friday talk and Saturday outing.

Friday talk: June 12, 6 pm at the Ashland Food Co-op Community Classroom
Saturday outing: June 13, 9 am, meet at the Ashland CVS

Free and open to all. Link in bio to register.
