“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”
— James Baldwin

Juneteenth gives us the opportunity to honor the resilience, courage, and contributions of those who came before us, while reflecting on how we can help build a healthier, more equitable future.

At P-POD, we believe education can help drive meaningful change. Through education in disease prevention, health equity, and lifestyle medicine, we support health professionals in building stronger communities.

We invite you to read a thoughtful 2023 Juneteenth reflection from P-POD’s former board member and current speaker Dr. Qadira M. Ali, who shares her perspective on the significance of this day and its enduring relevance to our communities.

This June in Atlanta, P-POD is honored to present its Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. Jennifer Rooke in recognition of her decades of leadership in prevention, plant-based nutrition, Lifestyle Medicine, and health equity.

Throughout her career, Dr. Rooke has helped empower clinicians, medical students, patients, and underserved communities through education, advocacy, and preventive healthcare. Her work has helped expand conversations around nutrition, chronic disease prevention, and equitable access to evidence-based care.

We are also grateful to have Dr. Rooke participating in two meaningful discussions during our opening weekend, including conversations on women’s health, survivorship, stress, sleep, and practitioner well-being.

At a time when burnout, chronic disease, and health disparities continue to affect so many communities, these conversations matter.

Women’s health is one of P-POD’s 15 Core Topics, and throughout our 2026 conference series we will explore a wide range of issues impacting physical, mental, cardiovascular, metabolic, neurologic, and survivorship-related health.

One featured session during our June 6 opening weekend in Atlanta is the Women’s Health Empowerment Round Table:

We are grateful to bring together physicians, nurses, dietitians, researchers, and advocates working to advance evidence-based prevention and Lifestyle Medicine for women and communities everywhere.
