How confident are you with your digital preservation practices?

Join us online this November for the "Digital Directions" conference, a three half-day training covering the foundations of digital preservation.

Digital Directions is geared toward those working with digital collections at mid- and large-sized archives, libraries, museums, historical organizations, government agencies, corporate archives, and other organizations that steward digital collections. Students are also welcome, and a discounted student registration rate is available. Prior digital preservation experience is not required to attend, but familiarity with some basics may be helpful.

Thanks to Community Preservation Act (CPA) funding from the Town of Natick, Captain James Mann’s muster roll from the Battle of Bunker Hill, fought on June 17, 1775, has been conserved!

Thanks to Community Preservation Act (CPA) funding from the Town of Natick, Captain James Mann’s muster roll from the Battle of Bunker Hill, fought on June 17, 1775, has been conserved!

These photos show the work done by the Northeast Document Conservation Center. Specialists cleaned and stabilized the fragile document, repaired tears, and made digital images and a fullsize reproduction for display and research. Funding awarded in 2025 helped us preserve this piece of Natick’s history for future generations.

This past summer, town clerks from Windham County, Connecticut gathered for a customized disaster preparedness training led by NEDCC Associate Preservation Specialist Jesse Keel.

The half-day workshop focused on the unique challenges of protecting municipal records and gave participants practical guidance, templates, and tools to support disaster planning for their collections.

“These town clerks wear many hats in their communities,” said Jesse. “It was rewarding to learn more about their specific challenges and help them identify solutions to mitigate risk and improve preparedness, whether they are responding to a small water leak or a hurricane.”

The session was also a reminder of the value of working together. By sharing knowledge and planning ahead, communities can be better prepared to protect the records they rely on every day.
