Priceless Alaska - Addressing Sex Trafficking

Priceless is an anti s*x trafficking organization that walks with victims to find new life while meeting practical needs.

Commercial s*xual exploitation is “a practice by which a person achieves s*xual gratification, financial gain, or advancement through the abuse or exploitation of a person’s s*xuality by abrogating that person’s human right to dignity, equality, autonomy, and physical and mental well-being.”

Victims of s*x trafficking are forced to work in the commercial s*x trade against their will. Physical an

d emotional violence is an intrinsic part of this industry, which preys on individuals in conditions of physical, economic, and psychological vulnerability. To keep them working, victims are threatened, lied to, and beaten by traffickers and pimps, who control their money. This practice exists within all sectors of the s*x industry, including street prostitution, strip clubs, residential brothels, and massage parlors. Our mission is to develop and deploy leaders who in the context of missional communities work together through prayer, meeting practical needs, and networking with other agencies toward abolishing human trafficking and s*xual slavery.

Five years ago, one of the most vibrant souls walked through the doors of Priceless. She came needing practical resources, but beneath those needs was something even deeper: a longing to know that she was worthy, valuable, and deserving of a life filled with good things.

We’ve had the sacred privilege of walking beside her. We’ve cried with her in the hard moments, laughed until our stomachs hurt, celebrated the victories, and watched her slowly discover the strength that was there all along.

She is joy in human form. She walks into a room and somehow makes it lighter. Her smile disarms tension. Her superpower is making people laugh. She loves people with her whole heart. And she is one of the strongest women we know.

Recently, we celebrated something incredibly special: she had a birthday and “graduated” from our program. Her story isn't over, she is ready to step forward into what comes next. She has built healthy community. She has made meaningful strides in her physical health. She has a vision for her future. She has grown in confidence, strength, and hope.

To say we love this woman is an understatement. It has been an honor to walk alongside her and hear the parts of her story that she trusted us with. She is the definition of hope—not because life has been easy, but because she has continued to choose life, joy, community, and a future.

Today and forever, we’ll be cheering her on from wherever life takes her. We love you. We are proud of you. And we cannot wait to see all that is still ahead. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who makes our work possible. Since Priceless started (in 2012) we have walked with over 400 survivors of s*x trafficking in the state of Alaska and educated thousands of individuals about the realities of exploitation in our communities. This weekend is our Engage Training and there is still time to register!

Engage is a foundational training that invites you into the broken places of our world, including the brokenness in your own story. You will leave with practical skills to walk with marginalized people in a healthy way.

We will discuss what it looks like to walk in healthy life rhythms; how to engage with people who've experienced hurt, loss, and/or trauma; and keys to a balanced life in relationships with others. The objective is to help you hear God's call on your life and walk forward to serve marginalized people.

Almost 3,000 individuals have been impacted by the work of Priceless this year. And that does not include the conversations, stories, and touch points at Refuge Coffee. We've taken time to reflect on how much we have been able to accomplish these last six months as a result of the support of people who believe in the mission of Priceless, champion hope, and fight for freedom. From awareness trainings, operations, new partnerships, conversations with survivors, and exposing stories of exploitation the work is far from finished. We are excited for what the rest of this year has in store.

Join Priceless next Tuesday from 7:00–8:30 PM at the Mat-Su Health Foundation (777 N. Crusey) for our free Trafficking in Plain Sight & Online Exploitation training.

We’ll cover:�• What human trafficking looks like in Alaska�• How to recognize warning signs�• The ways the internet is being used for exploitation�• Practical ways each of us can help protect our communities

This training is free and open to anyone who wants to learn more. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, youth leader, healthcare worker, business owner, or simply someone who cares about your community, we’d love to have you join us.

Together, we can make Alaska a harder place for exploitation to happen.
