More information on the pending bill that would provide financial support to improve access to veterinary services throughout rural Alaska.

More access to veterinarian care, which is scarce in rural communities, would boost both human health and safety as well as animal welfare, bill supporters say.

This weekend we had an amazing clinic in Dillingham! Final numbers aren’t in yet, so we’ll update later.

House Finance Committee is scheduled to hear HB 258 – Statewide Spay & Neuter Program - next Thursday, May 7 beginning at 9:00AM.

We are grateful to all of the organizations and individuals working tirelessly to improve the quality of life for pets and their people in rural Alaska.
A very worthy effort to support if you are so inclined. Every little bit helps make a difference!

It weighs heavy on our hearts for every request we cannot fulfill when efforts are exhausted and resources run dry. Always innovating, we are pleased to announce our very first DIGITAL DONATION DRIVE to benefit our friends at the newly established Animal Control Department in Point Hope, AK! Officer Masuk has very little to start with, jumping into responding to calls and getting the department up and running. She has reached out to us for guidance/contributions for the cause!

Their public service contributes to the health and safety of not only their community, but all communities in rural Alaska that have faced generations of overpopulation issues and issues caused by lack of veterinary access and local/state law enforcement.

Our Outreach Team took the Point Hope Wishlist from Officer Masuk and put together a list of items with estimated prices and links you can follow for descriptions and even direct ordering. If you’d like to source your own items, by all means – use our list as a guide for what they need! We are doing our own donation round-up among the non-profit groups to address the requests of dog food and vaccines specifically.

Item #4 is the largest budget item they require, but we figure if the North Slope Borough can see how much of the necessary supplies are already covered by donations, maybe they can find the funds to get a few outdoor pens and indoor crates until proper accommodation can be acquired. We have over 3,000 rescue/rehomes from the villages under our belt, and these items are the tried and true for dogs/puppies across the spectrum.

If not us, then who? The Good People will rally to the cause, because as difficult as it may be to start Animal Control in a village – we must start somewhere! With the proper support in the right areas, these programs are hugely successful as we have come to see through our service in the Bering Strait Region.

Like, comment, share, donate and/or volunteer – look at the difference a person can make! It matters to the animals.
