What an incredible night. 💙

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who supported our Move Your Pheet fundraiser. Whether you sponsored, donated, volunteered, bid in the silent auction, ran the 5K, or simply helped spread the word, you played a part in making a difference.

The PKU community is built on support, strength, and connection, and Friday night was a beautiful reminder of that. We are so grateful for each and every one of you and the impact you continue to make.

Thank you for helping us raise awareness, support families affected by PKU, and continue our mission here in Alaska.

Until next year! 💛👟💙

✨ The 3rd Annual MOVE YOUR “PHEET” is here! ✨ Join us May 29th at 5PM for a 5K run or walk, followed by a silent auction & dinner.

As you may or may not know, May is National PKU Awareness Month. PKU (Phenylketonuria) is a rare metabolic disorder that prevents the body from properly breaking down an amino acid called Phenylalanine, also known as “Phe.” Because of this, individuals with PKU must follow a strict low-protein diet—carefully weighing food, tracking phe intake, and relying on medical formula to stay healthy. If unmanaged, PKU can affect brain function and lead to serious complications.
To learn more about PKU and the heart behind our mission, visit the “What is PKU?” and “About PKU Alaska” sections on our website: www.pkualaska.com

With May being PKU Awareness Month, the National PKU Alliance (NPKUA) hosts the Move Your “Pheet” campaign to encourage people everywhere to get out and move. Here in Alaska, we’re proud to bring our community together for our own local event to support research, resources, and families affected by PKU. We may be a small community, but we are mighty!

Whether you joined us last year or this will be your first time, we would love to see you there. If you’re unable to attend, please consider donating or sharing this event with your friends and family. Every bit of support makes a difference 💙

Attention PKU Alaska community! We are looking for a lucky PKU kid or two that is interested in attending Flok summer camp in Oregon! PKU Alaska would love to send one of our own to summer camp to connect with a larger community, and learn more about PKU. We are happy to assist with airfare for a child and chaperone, as well as camp attendance for the chaperone.

If you or someone you know are interested, please reach out!

Otsuka Pharmaceutical announced yesterday that it has started a phase 3 clinical trial for Repinatrabit, also known as JNT-517, to treat people with PKU. Repinatrabit is a type of oral drug called a small-molecule inhibitor of the phenylalanine (Phe) transporter SLC6A19. It works by blocking the body from reabsorbing Phe so that it can be excreted in the urine and is being developed as a possible treatment for all people with PKU, regardless of age or genetic variant.

The drug was first developed by Jnana Therapeutics, and it was shown to be safe and helped lower Phe levels in people with PKU in earlier clinical studies. The launch of a Phase 3 trial is an important step to test this drug’s safety and effectiveness in a larger, more diverse population. This is usually the last step before a drug can be reviewed for approval. You can read more about the announcement here: https://www.otsuka.co.jp/en/company/newsreleases/2025/20251219_2.html.

This is an exciting step toward expanding therapeutic options to more people with PKU!
