Our Mission is to improve the lives of those worldwide in desperate situations and personal crisis. We have projects based in Cambodia, Namibia, and Guatemala.

AKUN is a public charity registered in Alaska and is exempt from income tax under IRS section 501(c)(3) as of January 14, 2015. We take on small scale projects with the philosophy that a small helping hand can lead to positive life changes. Project 1: The Sunday Children's Program is held once a week in 3 locations in extremely poor villages. Every Sunday, the children are served one very nutritious meal of 'bobo', a rice porridge packed with eggs, chicken meat and veggies. It might not seem much but that one meal a week has proved to improve the health of these children. It is also a nice way to gather them together and check on their health and family issues. Project 2: Providing scholarships for students living in poverty to give them the chance at earning a trade certificate or diploma leading to employment. For many families, this breaks the poverty cycle. We have students in Cambodia, Guatemala, and Ethiopia. Project 3: We help the primary schools in an impoverished, rural area of Namibia with school books, gardening equipment, and lunch programs which feeds children and keeps them in school.

🌟 Meet Zita! 🌟
Zita is a teacher in training at Raizen Academy in Namibia, where she has been supporting children for the past two years. As a single parent, her work is incredibly important to her family—and she needed to gain formal teaching qualifications to continue in her role.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, AKUN was able to step in through two of our programs—the Family Assistance Benefit and Scholarship Program—to cover the fees for Zita’s Level 4 teaching qualification. 🎓
The one-year course is already underway, and Zita has successfully completed a number of assignments. We’re delighted to be able to support her as she develops her skills and continues making a difference in the lives of the children she teaches. ❤️

🌟 Busy meeting day! 🌟

Big discussions around Linda and Barbara's upcoming Cambodia trip! ✈️ They'll be carrying: 🦷 Toothbrushes & toothpaste 👓 Reading glasses (for the Women's Group) & small gifts for everyone involved in the SCP—including our amazing teenage volunteers 💙

We also heard concerning news from Mbambazi School 🏫: ⛈️ Hailstorm broke their tent classroom & damaged stored books 🍅 Garden crops ruined by pests 🥩 Meat supply issues affecting lunches.

We'll be checking in with the school next week to learn more. 🙏

For 10 years, AKUN has supported the Sunday Children's Program in rural Cambodia. ❤️
Children in the village of Tropeang Skun benefit not only from the nutritious meals provided each week, but also from the friendships, games, and activities that help them learn, grow, and thrive.

🇰🇭 One month to go! ✈️
In just one month, Linda Franks (AKUN VP) and Barbara Sanders (AKUN President) will be heading to Cambodia to visit AKUN’s projects and the people we support.
They’re hoping to catch up with as many current and graduate scholarship students as possible, as well as spending time at the Sunday Children’s Program (SCP) in Chumkiri.
Visiting Cambodia and meeting the people we work with is an important part of understanding how needs are changing and how AKUN can best support our students and the SCP.
Both Linda and Barbara are eagerly looking forward to the trip and the opportunity to reconnect with so many familiar faces! 💛🇰🇭

Thanks to the generosity of AKUN's donors, we were able to send $450 in May to purchase math resources for Rafe, the Peace Corps volunteer based at Mbambazi Primary School for two years.
Some of the new equipment has already been put to great use, with students learning about weight, mass, and shapes through hands-on activities. Seeing the children actively engaged and learning by doing is wonderful—and it's all possible thanks to your support!
