The RDC Board of Directors had the privilege of visiting the Pikka Project for this year’s Board Outreach Trip! Work on the Slope is booming right now for many RDC members, and Pikka is boosting this activity by being one of the largest conventional oil developments on Alaska’s North Slope in over 20 years. RDC Board Members met the workforce making this project a reality and saw first-hand the significant investment Santos has made in Alaska’s energy future.

Pikka Phase 1 is currently producing ~23,000 barrels of oil per day and recently shipped its first 450,000-barrel cargo of ANS crude. As they ramp up to full production of ~80,000 barrels a day, Santos continues to employ innovative technologies and practices to balance development with the needs of local communities and protection of the environment. RDC Executive Director Connor Hajdukovich was honored to join Senator Dan Sullivan, "Dirty Jobs" host Mike Rowe, and Amy Schumacher, the Director at the Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center to discuss the importance of workforce development and the growing demand for skilled trades in Alaska. As our state’s opportunities continue to grow, preparing Alaskans for careers that support energy, infrastructure and resource development projects remains a top priority for RDC and its member industries.

We extend a special thank you to Wells Fargo, an RDC member company, for its generous $250,000 investment in the Pipeline Training Center and $250,000 to the Alaska Vocational and Technical Center (AVTEC) in Homer. These donations will help expand workforce training opportunities and equip the next generation of skilled workers.

RDC was honored to co-host a roundtable with the Alaska Oil and Gas Association and Alaska Miners Association at the North Slope Borough offices, featuring US Department of Energy Under Secretary, Kyle Hausveit, following his recent trip to the North Slope. The roundtable included company representatives from the oil and gas and mining industries. The Under Secretary is focused on our shared goal of providing affordable and reliable energy to Alaskans and highlighted the geopolitical importance that DOE places on Alaska's resource potential. Last month, RDC's Board of Directors met for our annual board meeting to set priorities and welcome our new board members for the year ahead.

We were pleased to welcome David Fotouhi, deputy administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, who joined the board for a thoughtful discussion on the opportunities and challenges facing Alaska.

We're grateful for the leadership and commitment of our board as we continue advancing RDC's mission to grow Alaska through responsible resource development.

Hundreds of Alaskans packed the room for the RDC Annual Membership Luncheon, and the conversation did not disappoint. Keynote speaker David Fotouhi, deputy administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, laid out the administration's work to remove barriers for business and what it means for Alaska's resource development future. From there, a fireside chat among industry leaders kept the energy going. A great day for Alaska.
