Stone Soup Group

Stone Soup Group Supporting families who care for children with special needs in Alaska for over 30 years.

Stone Soup Group (SSG) is a statewide 501(c)3 non-profit that provides information, support, training and resources to assist families caring for children with special needs. SSG is staffed almost entirely by parents or family members of a child with special needs, so they know the journey and are better able to help other families navigate through what is often an overwhelming and confusing proce

ss following a diagnosis or, at times of transition later down the road. At SSG we understand that no single organization can do everything for one family; so we are here to provide that link to relevant community resources, ensuring that every child and family living with special needs receives quality coordinated care and support. Our services are available statewide and most programs and services are no cost to families.

Join us along with Access Alaska, Inc. for the Anchorage Self-Directed Community Forum as we explore how self-directed services could create more choice, flexibility, and independence for Alaskans. Self-direction allows participants to have greater control over the supports they receive, who provides those supports, and how and when services are delivered. We want to hear directly from the people most impacted as we consider bringing more self-directed service options to Alaska.

The forum will feature two separate sessions designed for different audiences:

Families and Self-Advocates (2:00–4:00 PM): Individuals with disabilities, elders, family members, and supporters are invited to share their experiences, needs, and ideas about what self-directed services could look like in Alaska.

Providers and Care Coordinators (5:00–6:30 PM): Service providers, care coordinators, and professionals are encouraged to join the conversation about opportunities, challenges, and how self-direction could support person-centered care across Alaska.
Your feedback will help shape the future of self-directed services in our state!
