Happy ! πŸŽ‰

We have an important announcement. πŸ’š

On **Friday September 25th** β€” 9/25 β€” **Alaska Peer Support Alliance administration will be closed.**

If Star Wars can co-opt May 4th then we can absolutely take 9-2-5 for **Dolly.** πŸ˜„

We will be spending the day honoring a woman who has dedicated her life to kindness, community, literacy, resilience and showing up for people β€” which is honestly pretty on brand for us. πŸ’š

*"If you want the rainbow you gotta put up with the rain."*
β€” Dolly Parton, patron saint of doing it anyway πŸ’š

**But our community space will be open as always** β€” because our doors are open even when admin is off celebrating Dolly. Come on in, craft something, sit with us. πŸ’š

Happy Dolly Day everyone. We hope you spend it doing something that brings you as much joy as Dolly brings us. πŸ’šπŸŒˆ

Special Membership Meeting β€” Tuesday September 22 | 7:00 PM | Zoom
(Link in comments)

Agenda:
Vote to ratify the name change to Alaska Peer Support Alliance
Election of directors to fill Board vacancies
Report and discussion of potential Board misconduct

Our community deserves transparency. Here is where things stand:

We have just received notice that our national affiliation has been revoked. We are processing this - the legal ramifications, the reputational impact and everything in between.. πŸ’š

The Board of Directors voted to dissolve the organization and closed the physical office. But the Membership alone has that right. πŸ’š

A Cease and Desist letter was issued to the Board yesterday demanding a retraction of incorrect dissolution communications within 48 hours.

The stakes are real and urgent:
πŸ’š Outreach events at risk
πŸ’š Community members being displaced
πŸ’š Mini grant recipients in limbo
πŸ’š Critical funding being lost

As one community member said: "It's triggering and scary for a vulnerable community that relies on the services and refuge of this space."

Under Alaska law, the Membership decides the future of this organization. Not the Board. πŸ’š

A note on membership: We don't have access to a complete member list. We are trusting that those who show up and vote are members in good standing. If unsure of your status, please reach out to the former parent organization to confirm. πŸ’š

Come as you are. This community is worth fighting for. πŸ’š

⚠️ TW/CW: Su***de, Veteran Su***de

Today is Patriots Day β€” September 11th. A day we remember those we lost and honor those who answered the call to serve. πŸ’š

When our citizens join the military they agree to put everything on the line to defend this country. What they don't sign up for is the PTSD, the lack of support when they come home, or becoming a statistic.

We have been told for years that 22 veterans die by su***de every day.

The real number may be 44. You read that right.

According to Operation Deep Dive by America's Warrior Partnership, when you include self-injury mortality β€” often overdoses β€” as many as 44 veterans die every single day. Significantly underreported and undercounted.

Look closely at our display. Uncle Sam holds 17.5 hearts β€” the officially acknowledged daily number. The hearts surrounding him represent the ones that never get counted. The overdoses. The "accidents." The deaths that disappear from the data. πŸ’š

These are not numbers. These are people who served. Who came home. Who needed us. And who we failed. πŸ’š

This display stands apart from our Remembrance Tree β€” because our veterans deserve their own recognition. Every heart made by mousey hands πŸ˜„ that believe no sacrifice should go unremembered.

What better way to honor Patriots Day than to finally tell the whole story? πŸ’š

Would you like to add a veteran's name?
Stop by, message or email us. Tell us whether their death was reported as su***de or not and we will place their name with the appropriate hearts. You don't have to be here in person. πŸ’š

You are not alone. Not one of you. πŸ’š

We have always said nothing stops Crafternoon.

We were wrong. πŸ˜”

The loss of our affiliation with the national organization has thrown us into an uncertain space and we are navigating it in real time. We are disappointed. We are regrouping. And we are absolutely not done. πŸ’š

If you would like to be part of the conversation about how we move forward β€” we want you there.

Something beautiful has taken root in our office. πŸ’š

Inspired by the Little Heart Project and our history with the Remembrance Tree β€” we now have a white tree in our community space, adorned with teal and purple hearts in memory of those we have lost to su***de. πŸ’š

This is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month and we believe that remembrance is part of prevention. That saying their names matters. That honoring their lives matters. That the people left behind deserve a place to grieve and a community to grieve with. πŸ’š

Here's how you can participate:

🀍 Stop by, send us a message or email us β€” and we will add your loved one's name to a heart on the tree. You don't have to be here in person. We will honor them for you. πŸ’š

🧢 Pick up a crochet or knit heart kit and make one yourself β€” with your own hands, your own love, your own time. Kits are available in our admin office.

πŸ’š Memorial hearts are free β€” always. And if you feel moved to make a donation in your loved one's memory to help sustain our mission, we are deeply grateful.

πŸ“§ [email protected] πŸ’š

You are not alone in your grief. Neither are they, in our memory. πŸ’š

This is us. This is peer support. This is why we exist. πŸ’š

We will climb down into the abyss with you. We probably don't know the way out either. But we will bring a flashlight, some dark humor and enough unreasonable confidence to make the abyss question why it invited both of us.

We'll sit there for a minute. Complain about the decor. Then we're climbing back out. Together. πŸ’š

And here's what we want you to understand β€” especially this month, Su***de Prevention Awareness Month:

Nothing is ever just a flat tire. A clogged drain. A form that needs filling out. When someone has been carrying trauma, grief, fear and survival alone for years β€” their nervous system is already braced for the next thing to break. And when it does, even something small can hit like confirmation that the world isn't safe.

We are not overreacting. We are carrying a reality most people never have to face. πŸ’š

September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month and we want to say this plainly:

Literally anyone could be in crisis at any time. The person in line ahead of you. The coworker who seems fine. The friend who hasn't texted back.

Be kind. Be compassionate. Make eye contact. Smile. Ask how someone really is and mean it.

Sometimes a kind word or a simple smile is the difference between someone being here tomorrow or not. πŸ’š

You are not alone. Not ever. Not on our watch. πŸ’š

Happy **Labor Day** Anchorage. πŸ’š

Today we celebrate workers. We celebrate the eight hour work day, the weekend, workplace safety standards and the hard won rights that so many of us take for granted.

But let's talk about why we have those things. Because it wasn't given to us. It was paid for. πŸ’š

In 1911, **146 garment workers** β€” mostly young immigrant women β€” died in the **Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire** in New York City. They died because the exits were locked. Because there were no fire escapes. Because their lives were considered less valuable than the cost of letting them take breaks or leave early.

The outrage that followed built the modern labor movement. It gave us fire codes. Unlocked exits. Safety inspections. Eventually β€” minimum wage. Overtime pay. The right to organize.

People died for your lunch break. Let that sink in. πŸ’š

And yet here we are in 2026 β€” with smoke detectors and safety exits and (sometimes) a living wage β€” and **mental health in the workplace** is still treated as a personal failing rather than an organizational responsibility.

Burnout is not a badge of honor. Anxiety is not a character flaw. And a workforce that cannot access mental health support is not a productive one β€” it is a suffering one. πŸ’š

This Labor Day we are asking β€” when does mental wellness get the same urgency as a working smoke detector?

We think it should have been yesterday. πŸ’š

Can we talk about Annie's hands for a second? πŸ˜„

Leona β€” who sees everything β€” has officially dubbed them **"mousey hands."** Not because of how they look, but because they simply cannot. stop. moving. 🐭

Is it childhood conditioning? *Idle hands are the devil's playground* and all that. Is it the AuDHD? Is it just Annie being Annie?

Honestly β€” probably all three. πŸ˜„πŸ’š

Case in point: Annie discovered the **Tiny Hearts Program** approximately 48 hours ago.

In those 48 hours Annie has crocheted **60 teal and purple hearts** to spread around the community. πŸ’š

For those who don't know β€” Tiny Hearts are small crocheted hearts left in public spaces for strangers to find. A silent reminder that someone cares. That they are not alone. That kindness exists in unexpected places. πŸ’š

And since September is **Su***de Prevention Awareness Month** β€” there has never been a better time to spread a little unexpected love around Anchorage. πŸ’š
