🎃🚒 Halloween has kept your AFD firefighters busy! 👻

Between calls throughout the city, our crews had the opportunity to participate in the Fidalgo School Halloween event and hand out candy downtown! 🍬

We love getting out into the community, connecting with our neighbors, and being part of the events that make Anacortes such a special place to call home. We’re proud to serve this community both on and off duty!

From our AFD family to yours, we hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween! 🧡🖤

🚒 AFD Q3 2026 CALL STATISTICS

Anacortes Fire Department responded to 1,366 calls for service during the third quarter of 2026.

📊 EMS calls accounted for 87% of our total responses, making emergency medical services the largest part of our workload. Within those EMS calls, falls were the most common call category.

Falls can happen to anyone, but they can be especially dangerous for older adults. A fall can result in serious injuries, loss of independence, and a need for emergency medical care.

A few simple steps can help reduce fall risk:
• Keep walkways clear and well-lit.
• Remove loose rugs and tripping hazards.
• Use handrails on stairs and grab bars where needed.
• Wear properly fitted, nonslip footwear.

We’re proud to serve the Anacortes community, and we encourage everyone to take steps to help keep themselves and their loved ones safe.

❤️ Your Anacortes Fire Department — here when you need us!

Anacortes Fire Department Open House Update

Unfortunately, due to budget constraints, the Anacortes Fire Department’s annual Open House has been canceled this year.

We know this is a popular community event, and we’re disappointed that we won’t be able to welcome everyone to the fire station this year. We appreciate the continued support of our community and look forward to opportunities to connect with you in the future.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support of your Anacortes Fire Department.

🧗‍♂️ Rope Rescue Training | Mt. Erie

Yesterday, Anacortes Firefighters conducted our quarterly rope rescue training high above the trails of Mt. Erie. We couldn’t have asked for better weather or a better training environment.

We were also lucky to have our friends from NAS Whidbey Island Search & Rescue, Station SAR Whidbey Island, stop by and say hello! 🤝

🚒 Anacortes Fire Department is an all-hazards department, and our Technical Rescue Team is highly trained and prepared to respond when situations require specialized skills and equipment.

From steep terrain and rope systems to complex technical rescues, we continually train through realistic scenarios to sharpen our skills and make sure we’re ready when the call comes.

Train hard. Stay ready. Be there when it matters.

🔥 Residential Fire – Vista Lane

At 2155 last night, AFD firefighters were dispatched for a fire investigation on 33rd Street. The investigation was quickly upgraded to a residential fire, prompting the remaining crews to respond.

Ladder Truck 2915 and Medic 14 were first on scene. M14 made an initial entry and quickly extinguished the fire, helping keep the majority of the damage confined.

Great work by all of our crews involved! 🚒🔥

🚨 MVA | D Ave & 30th St 🚒

Yesterday, Anacortes Fire Fighters responded to a serious motor vehicle accident at the top of D Avenue and 30th Street.

Crews arrived to find an SUV that had struck a utility pole at a high rate of speed. Firefighters quickly went to work securing the vehicle and safely extricating the driver.

Once extricated, the patient was transferred to Medic 12 and transported to Island Health, where crews rendezvoused with a Life Flight Network helicopter for air transport to Seattle for definitive care.

A big thank you to Puget Sound Energy for their quick response in securing the damaged utility infrastructure and working to restore power to the area. It appears power has been fully restored as of this morning.

🚒 Strong teamwork from everyone involved helped get this patient the care they needed quickly and safely.

Lieutenant Travis Bryan and Firefighter/Paramedic Steve Monrad—thank you for your unwavering dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving our community. Your impact on this department and the firefighters who served alongside you will be felt for years to come.

Local 1537 would also like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this celebration so special.
