www.transitionfidalgo.org TF&F is the 79th chapter of the transition U.S.

initiative, a non-profit 501(c)3, volunteer based organization working to strengthen our community’s resilience by developing positive, everyday solutions to the challenges of climate change, energy uncertainty, and economic instability. 🥕🥬🍅Have you heard about our Share The Bounty produce stands? 🥕🥬🍅

Transition Fidalgo's Share The Bounty produce stands offer a totally FREE way to share fresh, healthy food within our community.

Stocked with produce grown by students at the Anacortes Middle School Garden, harvested from the 29th St. Community Garden, and donated by generous donations from local gardens and community members, these food stands are open to all!

You'll find the free produce stands at the entrances to the Anacortes Library, the Senior Center, and the Harbor House from July - October.

AND if you'd like to support this program, you're in luck!

We're currently looking for a volunteer community member to help coordinate and implement this seasonal project.

Working with the current volunteers, it needs someone to oversee the basics:
🥕Initiate distribution of the boxes at the start and end of each season.
🥕Handle communicate with produce stand host locations
🥕Keep in touch with volunteers to coordinate cleaning, restocking, etc.

🌱A big thank-you to everyone who joined us at Saturday's Intro To Seed Saving class! We had a great turnout with lots of new faces.

Salish Seed Guild outreach educator Celt Shira covered everything from why save your own seeds, to cleaning and saving the harvest, including the tricky topic of isolating squash flowers from which you want to save seeds so they’re not cross pollinated.

🌍IT'S WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY!🌍

First held in 1973, World Environment Day is an opportunity to raise awareness and take action to help protect and conserve this incredible planet we call home.

And at Transition Fidalgo, we do just that!

Our programs and events are focused on reducing the impact we have on our planet. Through a wide range of volunteer-driven efforts (such as our Fix-It Days repair cafes, the Anacortes Middle School Garden, Fidalgo Seed Share, ACFL Monitoring Program, and our free Share The Bounty produce stands), we aim to build a resilient, close-knit community that is able to sustain itself and thrive.

👏🏻Celebrating our incredible Youth Board Advisor!

A huge thank-you to everyone who showed their support for Transition Fidalgo's Youth Board Advisor, Tara Johnson, in completing her rain water catchment system project at the Anacortes Middle School!

One of TF's initiatives is welcoming Youth Board Advisors - high school Junior or Senior students - to participate on our Board for a year, which includes initiating their own environmental or resiliency-focused project in the community.

2026's Youth Board Advisor Tara successfully installed a rain barrel water catchment system at the Anacortes Middle School this month, a project that she initiated, researched, and executed. The system will be used to collect rainwater to water the garden, helping the thriving AMS Garden to lower energy usage and improve plant health. It will also serve as a valuable teaching tool for students in the Garden.

Thank you to all who volunteered and supported this effort. We greatly appreciate you and your interest in helping the next generation step into leadership roles in community and climate resiliency!

🚨NEW EVENT: Intro to Seed Saving, June 13th

Join Transition Fidalgo's Seed Share project for this informative presentation on June 13th on seed saving and why it's so important!

FREE AND OPEN TO ALL!

In this free class, you'll hear from Celt Schira, freelance plant breeder and seed saver, as you learn:
🌱why seed saving is valuable for home gardeners,
🌱how to plan your garden for seed saving,
🌱the basics of plant breeding,
🌱how to select plants for seed saving,
🌱and collecting, processing and storing your seed.

Come join us and learn why saving your seeds is important for you and for our ecosystem!

🛠️♻️IT'S ALMOST TIME!♻️🛠️

Transition Fidalgo's next Fix-It Days repair cafe event is coming up on Saturday May 30th from 9am - 2pm at the , and we can't wait!

Bring your broken or torn household items down to our booth and see what our skilled repair team can do!

Whether it's a table lamp from your grandmother, a beloved sweater, or a coffee maker on the fritz, we'll take a look and repair it if we can.

Transition Fidalgo's Fix-It Days program has been operating since 2011, providing donation-based repairs to the community in an effort to keep reusable waste out of landfills.

We believe the best way to address the growing waste problem is by providing accessible repair services (like our repair cafes!), and raising awareness about how important reuse, repair, recycling, and reducing waste overall are for ourselves and our planet.

Stop by and check it out: Saturday May 30th, The Depot on 7th & R Avenue, 9am - 2pm!
