🍎🤓School is back in session... Which means our Anacortes Middle School Garden program is back as well!

Transition Fidalgo's Anacortes Middle School Garden program helps students learn the skills to grow their own food, while the AMS Garden to Kitchen program helps build an appreciation for fresh, healthy produce.

🍎If you want to contribute to this amazing program, you can volunteer for just one day a week during the school year for 1–3 hours! There are options to work directly with the students or behind the scenes, depending on your interests.

🥬 Kids love to eat what they grow!

There’s a big difference between being told that vegetables are good for you and planting a seed, nurturing a plant, harvesting it...and then getting to eat the results. 🌱➡️🥕

Transition Fidalgo's Anacortes Middle School Garden program helps students discover where food comes from, while the AMS Garden to Kitchen program helps build an appreciation for fresh, healthy produce.

And the best part? The garden’s bounty doesn’t stop with the students. During the summer, volunteers help harvest for our free Share The Bounty stands, so fresh produce can make its way into the community, too.

🔧 Before you throw it away… could it be fixed? 🪡

We live in a world where it can often feel easier (and cheaper) to replace something than to repair it. But what if we chose a different approach?

That’s the idea behind Fix-It Days Repair Cafes. 💚

For more than a decade, Transition Fidalgo’s community of skilled volunteers has been helping neighbors repair, mend, and breathe new life into broken household items, keeping useful things out of the landfill and helping us rethink our throwaway culture.

So before you give up on that lamp, coffee maker, favorite sweater, or other household treasure gathering dust in the corner, bring it to our next Fix-It Days event and let's see if we can help!

📅 Saturday, August 29
⏰ 9 AM–2 PM
📍 Anacortes Farmers Market — The Depot, 7th St. & R Ave.

Transition Fidalgo's Fix-It Days Repair Cafes are community events dedicated to repairing broken items and keeping repairable waste out of the landfill.

Repair and reuse are powerful ways to support our planet, live more sustainably, AND save you money. Because the most sustainable thing we can buy is often… nothing at all! 🌎

Come see what our fixers can save from the landfill - and discover just how satisfying it can be to repair instead of replace!

🐝🌱 Pollinators. Compost. Healthy soil.

Caring for our planet starts with understanding the little things that make a big difference.

In Transition Fidalgo's Anacortes Middle School Garden program, students get hands-on experience caring for plants, soil, pollinators, and the living ecosystem around them.

They learn that a healthy garden isn’t just about what we grow - it’s about how we care for the whole environment.

Want to help students develop that connection with nature? We could use your help!

🌿 Volunteer with us during the school year, or lend a hand with watering, harvesting, planting, or weeding during the summer.

🌱 Got more garden goodness than you know what to do with? Share the bounty! 🥕🍅

It’s that wonderful time of year when zucchini seem to multiply overnight and tomato plants are bursting with more fruit than we can possibly eat. ButInstead of letting it go to waste, share it with your neighbors! 💚

From July through mid-October, our Share the Bounty stands are ready to accept your extra home-grown fruits and veggies — and anyone in our community is welcome to take what fresh food they need, absolutely free.

🍅 Have an overflowing harvest? Donate it.
🥕 Need some fresh produce? Take it.
🌻 Want to strengthen our local food network? Do both!

You’ll find free produce stands at the entrances to the Anacortes Library, Anacortes Senior Center, and Harbor House.

Every cucumber, tomato, zucchini, apple, or handful of greens you share helps make nutritious, locally grown food more accessible while building greater resilience and food security in our community.

Your garden can nourish more than your own table. Let’s share the abundance! 🌿💚

🥕 Gardens grow more than vegetables - they grow teamwork.

In Transition Fidalgo's Anacortes Middle School garden program, students learn that a successful harvest takes cooperation. They share tools, divide up jobs, solve problems together, encourage one another, and celebrate what they accomplish as a team.

That’s where our amazing garden volunteers come in! 💚

There are lots of ways to help out at the Garden! Spend just 1–3 hours a week with a small group of 7th or 8th graders and help create a place where students build confidence, responsibility, and community, or join us to help behind the scenes with Summer harvests and other tasks.

Join us and help our students grow - together!

🔬🌱 Science comes alive in the garden!

What happens when students get to learn science with their hands, not just from a textbook? 📚

They discover how plants grow, explore soil and ecosystems, observe insects, solve problems, and see the results of their work firsthand.

At Anacortes Middle School Garden, 7th and 8th graders learn by doing - and volunteers make those experiences possible!

🌿 Volunteer for just one day a week during the school year for 1–3 hours, depending on your availability. You can work with the students or behind the scenes, as Summer help with watering and harvesting is also flexible and minimal.

Come help students turn curiosity into something they can grow! 💚
