Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia at Iowa State Est. 1922/2015
Making Men of the Highest Type since 1898 We always welcome potential new members.

We are the Alpha Delta Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America. Chartered at Iowa State on December 17, 1922, the Alpha Delta Chapter is celebrating its centennial year. Sinfonia was born on October 6, 1898, at the New England Conservatory in Boston, when a group of thirteen young men under the guidance of Ossian Everett Mills “to consider the social life of the young men students of that institution [and] to devise ways and means by which it might be improved.” Sinfonia became a national fraternity on October 6, 1900, with the admission of a group of men at the Broad Street Conservatory in Philadelphia. For over a century, Sinfonians in nearly every field of study and professional endeavor have transformed music in America. The opportunity of becoming a Sinfonian is offered to as many men as possible who, through a love for music, can assist in the fulfillment of the Fraternity’s Object and ideals either by adopting music as a profession, or by working to advance the cause of music in America. Feel free to contact us if interested in joining!

❤🖤💛Get to know the Brothers of Phi Mu Alpha ❤🖤💛

Meet Brother Preston Gaskill, a Senior majoring in Computer Engineering and Cyber Systems, and our current Chapter President! 😎

Since joining Sinfonia in Spring 2023, Preston has found much more than just a fraternity. He has found a community of musically oriented brothers who share his interests, passions, and sense of adventure.

From serving as Social Chair to now leading the chapter as President, Preston continues to put the brotherhood first and ensures those around him feel valued. 😌

Caring, funny and effortlessly down to earth, Preston is the kind of brother who will put your needs right alongside his own. In his free time, you can probably find him hiking the next trail, exploring Ames, or getting way too invested in an escape room. 🧩🔑

His most interesting achievement of the summer? Rewiring and restoring a waffle maker from the 1940s. 🥞

🎶Give it up for Brother Preston Gaskill! 🎶

🔥 Brotherhood, great food, and unforgettable memories. What more could you ask for? 🔥

The Brothers of Phi Mu Alpha came together in Ames for an incredible summer cookout, bringing together both new and longtime brothers for a weekend filled with laughter, fellowship, and some seriously amazing food! 🍗🍋‍🟩

From some slow cooked brisket and sizzling hot grilled chicken, to delicious sides and great conversations, this year's cookout was a perfect reminder that the strongest bonds are built when brothers come together. Whether it was sharing memories, reuniting with brothers, enjoying the beautiful weather ☀, every moment strengthened through brotherhood, reaffirming what makes Sinfonia so special. ❤️🖤💛

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and made this year's cookout such a great success. Lifelong friendships, growing memories, and to make more cookouts to come!

Happy Juneteenth from Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity!

From the National Museum of African American History:
“Even though the Emancipation Proclamation was made effective in 1863, it could not be implemented in places still under Confederate control. As a result, in the westernmost Confederate state of Texas, enslaved people would not be free until much later. Freedom finally came on June 19, 1865, when some 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as “Juneteenth,” by the newly freed people in Texas.”

Happy Freedom Day!
