💜 Join LGBTQ Ames at Overdose Awareness Day 💜

The LGBTQ Ames Group is honored to be a vendor at Overdose Awareness Day, a community event dedicated to education, hope, healing, and connecting people with life-saving local resources.

Overdose affects every community—including ours. LGBTQ+ individuals experience higher rates of substance use disorders than the general population, often because of the impacts of discrimination, stigma, trauma, social isolation, and barriers to affirming healthcare. Research shows LGBTQ+ adults are nearly twice as likely to have a substance use disorder, and transgender and nonbinary individuals face even greater risks.

That's why LGBTQ Ames believes showing up matters.

We'll be there to:
💜 Share LGBTQ+-affirming community resources
💜 Connect with individuals and families
💜 Support harm reduction and recovery efforts
💜 Help reduce stigma through compassion, education, and visibility

No one should have to face addiction, recovery, or loss alone. Together, we can build a community where everyone feels seen, supported, and connected to the help they deserve.

We hope you'll stop by our table, learn about the many organizations serving Story County, and stand with us in remembering those we've lost while inspiring hope for those still fighting.

Enjoy fluffy pancakes, savory sausages, and beverages — all while supporting the mission of ACCESS. This free will donation event helps provide free, confidential, and voluntary services to individuals impacted by:
• Domestic Abuse
• Sexual Assault
• Homicide & Other Violent Crimes

Every plate served helps us continue offering safety, advocacy, support, and hope throughout our communities.

Do you have a child aged 8-17 who might be interested in attending a super fun LGBTQIA+ affirming summer camp? Have you ever wondered what it might be like to volunteer as a counselor at such a camp?

Check out:
Camp Quest North - Minnesota and Iowa! They're holding this year's session from August 2-8, 2026, in Central City, IA.

This is a fantastic, life-changing and hope-bringing experience for campers and staff alike. All the cabins and restrooms are gender-neutral, many of our community members are LGBTQIA+ or neurodivergent, and the camp abides by Humanist values (detailed in the second image below).

Feel free to reach out to Devoy with any questions at all, or if you're ready, head to CampQuestNorth.org to register a camper or apply for staff! It may just be the best decision you make for your summer.
