Iowa Learning Farms is building a Culture of Conservation, taking a grassroots approach to develop innovative ways in which all Iowans have a role in keeping our natural resources healthy. Farmers, researchers and ILF team members are working together to identify and encourage the implementation of management practices that increase water and soil quality while remaining profitable. Iowa Learning

Farms is a partnership between the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture, Iowa Natural Resources Conservation Service and Iowa Department of Natural Resources (USEPA Section 319); in cooperation with Conservation Districts of Iowa, the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation and the Iowa Water Center.

A Culture of Conservation: 2025 Fairs, Festivals, and More

Iowa Learning Farms partners with Water Rocks! to bring audiences its award-winning Conservation Stations—a fleet of mobile learning centers that educate audiences of all ages on different aspects of conservation, particularly involving water and soil. As noted in the Evaluation Report, the Conservation Station fleet welcomed 7,244 visitors at 72 events in 2025. Each trailer houses a unique combination of highly visual and interactive Iowa-centric demonstrations that delve into the impacts of land management choices, both urban and agricultural, on water quality and the connections between our state’s water, soil, and wildlife....

Launched in 2011, the monthly ILF Conservation Webinar Series proved so popular that it went weekly in March 2020. The 2025 Iowa Learning Farms Evaluation Report highlights the weekly series as it continued in 2025, with 50 webinars hosting 57 different presenters covering topics including cover crops, wetlands, alternative cropping, soil health, carbon, nutrient movement and management, prairie, drainage, stream health, wildlife, microbes, and trees....
