Awareness is a step toward prevention 💜

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a reminder that knowledge and awareness are essential to preventing domestic violence.

Understanding the signs of unhealthy relationships, speaking up when something doesn’t feel right, and encouraging open conversations can help create safer environments where youth, individuals, and families feel safe, valued, and heard.

If you see something, say something. Awareness can make a difference.

Through the Neighbor to Neighbor Dinner, Ember clients are helping turn community generosity into something meaningful: winter essentials for children in the Ballard School District.

Join Ember Recovery Campus and Story County Kiwanis Club on November 12 for a pulled-pork dinner from Jethro's with a free-will donation.

We’re grateful to partner with Medicap - Central Iowa to bring Before It Becomes More prevention resources to pharmacies across Iowa!

By helping people recognize the warning signs of opioid misuse and encouraging conversations early, we can connect more young people with support when they need it.

1 in 6 people will struggle with substance use, and 90% of them start as teenagers.

That’s why OneroRx pharmacies across Iowa, including Medicap Pharmacy and Community Pharmacy, are proud to support YSS and its statewide “Before It Becomes More” campaign.

The campaign helps Iowans:
✅ Recognize the warning signs of opioid misuse
✅ Start conversations early and connect at-risk young people with support
✅ Reduce the stigma around addiction and recovery

Participating locations will share prevention resources with patients right at the pharmacy counter, because pharmacists are among the most accessible healthcare providers in the communities we serve.

If you're concerned about a middle or high school student, YSS offers free, confidential, virtual substance use screenings.

The screening is the first step toward understanding what a student may need and connecting them with appropriate support.
