One of the saddest lines I have read about the horrible mass killing and mass kidnapping that took place in Kenscoff, Haiti: "It is believed to be one of the largest mass kidnappings in Haiti in recent years." 50 people kidnapped in a country of around 11 million, and the article cannot even say this is the "worst" or this is the "only" mass kidnapping in the last few years. IT JUST KEEPS HAPPENING!

It is believed to be one of the largest mass kidnappings in Haiti in recent years, and one gang leader is threatening to kill the hostages if authorities kill any gang members as they try to secure the community nestled in the hills above Port-au-Prince.

I am not even sure which article to post about the terrible things going on in and to Haiti right now. Consistent gang attacks (50 killed and another 50 kidnapped in Kenscoff days ago), total upheaval, and the threat of mass deportations combine together to make this one of the most dangerous times to be in Haiti right now. Please pray.

Nearly 200,000 people were forcibly returned to Haiti in the first eight ‌months of this year, a U.N. official told an emergency meeting of the Security Council on Friday, days after a brutal gang attack killed nearly 50 people near the capital.

This is an interesting article about the potential increase in deportations of Haitians who were here TPS (Temporary Protected Status). One of the most difficult things we have done in Haiti is to try and develop a plan to help our kids as they graduate High School. We finally have the basis of that plan ready to implement, but mass deportations will greatly hurt Haiti and many of the Haitians that will be affected. This is not a political post at all, this is a post about the actual lives of some of our very close friends and other Haitians who have been in the US legally for many years.

The potential crackdown follows a Supreme Court ruling that allowed the Trump Administration to end Haitians’ Temporary Protected Status.

It seems like the hits just keep coming. The Supreme Court as allowed the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) of Haitians to come to an end today! That means that Haitians living here under that status will no longer be able to work and can be deported back to their home country. The article states that there are 158,000 Haitians on TPS in Florida alone. We have personal friends who could be greatly affected by this. Some that have been here since they were very young and have no idea how to live in their home country. Others who have had kids here and now have to decide what to do next. Please be in prayer for this new change for Haiti (they are not ready for an influx of people) and Haitians that are here under this status.

Haitians in South Florida have been encouraged to get legal affairs in order, and to speak with estate and family attorneys.

Yolmenda was recognized as a nurse last month by her school! She still has 2 more years of training, but she is well on her way to a great career in Haiti. She has worked so hard to get here, and we are praying so hard that all of our kids find a career and a future like Yolmenda is making for herself. Thank you so much to everyone who has prayed and given to make this happen!

Today is the most I’ve wanted to be in Haiti since we left the country. One of my favorite memories is being down there during World Cups, and now Haiti is playing! If you are not watching it, stop what you are doing right now and turn it on. It’s truly a historic moment.

Continuing to speak with the kids about their future, there have been some happy and sad conversations, but the one thing I cannot shake is how many of them just want to leave Haiti...for good. It is a hard reality, but we continue to try and help them in the best way we can!
