Congratulations to poet Allan Manson who will be coming to take up the Rush Cottage Writers Residency in Hawke's Bay next week.

To welcome Allan, the Hawke's Bay Readers and Writers Trust Board will be hosting a drinks event so he can meet other writers and feel at home.

The Board is extending the invitation to our local NZSA members for drinks at the Cabana at Black Barn, Havelock North, Monday 15 June at 7pm.

Alan is taking his residency from 10 - 17 June 2025. This includes seven nights’ accommodation at Rush Cottage in Havelock North generously donated by Black Barn Retreats, and a stipend of NZD$1000 (including GST) to support the writer’s time.

Black Barn Retreats is in a beautiful location offering Alan scenic places to walk, think and write, and clearly some social life. Let's make Allan welcome!

Hawke's Bay writers! StoryLInes is visiting Hawke's Bay and Wairoa next week, 20-23 May 2026! This fantastic scheme will be bringing authors, illustrators and storytellers into schools, kura, libraries and communities to inspire a love of reading and storytelling.

Taranaki has had a lovely writerly time lately. The book launch for Mikaela Nyman's anthology 'Anatomy of Sand' included poetry readings, author talks, song and music at the Little Theatre in New Plymouth. Mikaela and poet Bob Hack (Everything is here) talked writing on stage, and memoirist and singer-songwriter Carol Bean also held the Taranaki launch for her memoir. Quite an event! Also Taranaki celebrated National Flash Fiction Day in style with an event at the Gover St Gallery. More in your CD e-newsletter to come this week!
