January 23, 2026: Founder's Note (We are a micro boots-on-the-ground mobile outreach. These are my stories and interactions as I am in the field every week so that we can best meet the needs of our most vulnerable.)

People remember kindness. He remembered.

Him: I rememeber you! Long time ago!
Me: Hey! Haven't seen you in a while, right?
Him: 2 years ago. You used to drive an SUV.
Me: Yes! The truck is new. That way I can bring more stuff for folks. How have you been?
Him: 2 years ago I was in a bad way. Got into drugs. I am better now. Working. I help put the salt on the roads. I will be working tomorrow. I have not been back in Dallas for 2 years but glad to see you. You used to give us that sweet tea.
Me: I still do! My friend donates that every week. Hey, you're doing good. Gotta stay clean, ok?

He showed me pictures of his mom and his kid. We reconnected for a few minutes just like we did 2 years prior. Maybe he needed that reminder that he could have a life worth fighting for. Maybe that cup of sweet tea gave him hope to try. Thank you for reading this story. We have our first NTX Giving Day match and a goal of 5K. The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) is the US Catholic Bishops’ domestic anti-poverty program.

UMU's Neighbor Outreach program meets people wherever they are (behind abandoned buildings, under bridges, etc) and we share nutritious meals, supplies, love, and smiles each week. We are incredibly honored to be a CCHD local grant recipient. Thank you, Catholic Diocese of Dallas for the opportunity to serve our vulnerable communities.

We deeply understand that homelessness is a complex issue and wraparound resources are needed in this fight. As a small grassroots boots-on-the-ground organization, we are often the first contact. We provide nutritious hot meals and essential supplies, but most importantly, we forge relationships and build trust. When a friend is ready and willing to start the process of exiting homelessness, we connect them to resources who can further assist. But the trust has to be there first. We build that trust by consistently showing up and sharing whatever donations we receive along with smiles and hope.

So often we default to material things as litmus tests to gauge success and a good life. The type of car we drive. The clothes or bags or shoes we own. The square footage of our homes. And some act as though those metrics make us better than another. But the true litmus test is how we treat those without. Do we show love and kindness and grace to our fellow brothers and sisters? Do we treat them as we would those we love dearly? Can we look past the soiled clothing and circumstances and truly see?

Always happy to serve with Caring Compassionate Hearts & Helping Hands, Inc. who had hydration that was very much needed and appreciated in this heat wave.

NTX Giving Day is 9/17th and it is our only scheduled fundraiser for the year. We serve our unhoused weekly as well as run free women's workshops every 1-2 months, assist 1-3 Rainy Day families each month, host free basketball camps for underserved youth and are in the 11th year of our holiday mini tree/menorah outreach and we would love the opportunity to earn your support this NTX Giving Day.
