Pakistan has a very interesting feature of their agricultural system; the IBIS, Indus Basin Irrigation System. This irrigation system supports nearly the whole country and without it crop production would diminish. We’ve seen the importance water can have on crops here in Albuquerque this summer during our drought. This canal system would have sure helped us out in July and August!

So much good has come from this last week of rains! Not only has our crop productivity boomed, but also the life in our soil and around our farm has increased. Bunches of beneficial insects and birds can be found in and around the farm, all creating a healthy, balanced ecosystem.

Our fava beans are growing beautifully!

A client from the Middle East decided to try fava beans this summer, and combining their work alongside our staff’s to get these fields healthy is hard work that's paid off.

Fava beans are legumes that grow bean pods that are high in plant protien, folate, iron, and magnesium. This crop can also act as a nitrogen fixer, making it great to grow to eat and great to grow for your land!

These beans are a staple for many middle eastern countries such as Egypt, Morocco, and Levant.

Letting amaranth go to seed to harvest like in these pictures is an easy way to make your own flour. Amaranth flour can be made by anyone, by finely grinding the plant’s seeds. This flour option will be gluten free, high in minerals such as iron and magnesium, and will have a higher protein content than regular flour, which will help with blood sugar regulation and digestion.

Let’s learn about Mayanmar today!
Their agriculture setting is very interesting and different from the U.S., however they do have a specific monsoon season like here in Albuquerque. A key difference between their monsoon season and ours, is that their monsoon season will give their land larger amounts of rain than us, allowing for large rice fields and hydroponic growing methods.
Some of our clients from this region enjoy growing roselle, an herb that is often used with garlic, chili, fish, and soup.

Rwanda is a beautiful country experiencing a big governmental push in agriculture. This has made the average farmer go from just growing for their family, to growing for business and exports. Our own Rwandan clients have enjoyed growing okra this summer and have had a great harvest so far. Our families like eating okra as is, cooked, or boiled for a herbal diabetes medicine.
