💫 Throwback Thursday to our Hobbs Child Care: Growing Supply event!

Last week, we gathered in Hobbs with early childhood educators, local and state leaders, and community partners to celebrate the people helping grow and strengthen high-quality child care across southeastern New Mexico.

The evening included a panel of local early childhood educators, community resources, connection and conversation, and a celebration of WESST’s Accelerator graduates. 🌱

We’re grateful to the J.F. Maddox Foundation and all of the community partners and leaders who joined us, as well as WESST, New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department, and the Low Income Investment Fund for being part of the evening. 💙

Jakia Fuller of Remnant Design Co. is now a full-time multidisciplinary creative artist, but back in 2020, she was looking for resources to simply get started. “I worked with WESST to overcome that feeling of getting started, and I realized I can also learn as I go. They helped me grow, and now I get to help expand opportunities for others too.”

Jakia is currently the inaugural fellow for the 2025-2026 SURFACE: Emerging Curators of New Mexico Fellowship. She curated SURFACE: Artist Alumni Satellite Gallery Exhibition, Route 66 - A Deep Imagining, now featured at Blue Sky Coworking NM, where her curatorial work will also be on display over the next year. Jakia’s personal art is included in The Woods Before Sunrise exhibition at the Albuquerque Museum, on display through October 2026.
