San Juan County and surrounding communities have been severely impacted by recent and repeated flooding, resulting in widespread damage to homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure, forcing evacuations and emergency rescues throughout the region.

We are with those who are experiencing loss and uncertainty at this time and thinking of our clients and community we serve and will continue to serve in the area - small business owners and entrepreneurs whose livelihoods have been disrupted as they work to protect one another. Our Farmington office and team are available.

Find local support in the area: San Juan United Way, San Juan College Enterprise Center, Farmington Regional Animal Shelter, (emergency shelter relocated at Desert River Guides LLC. ), and San Juan County Office of Emergency Management.

San Juan County Flooding evening update, October 25, 2026

There have been no additional rescues for 24 hours; rivers continue to recede. There are thunderstorms impacting the county as we post this, but we don’t believe they will cause additional problems today. Evacuated areas are still closed; there are life & safety hazards in evacuated areas. Law enforcement is patrolling. National Guard is supplementing local law enforcement.
LOOKING AHEAD: Thursday’s forecast may have additional rain, though Sunday. We will continue to watch the weather and update you.

SAFETY WARNING:
Do not return to evacuated areas.

SCHOOLS:
Check with your school or district for specifics.
Aztec is planning to have school.
Bloomfield, Farmington, and Central Consolidated schools are closed Monday.
San Juan College staff will report; no classes for students.

SHELTER STATUS:
McGee Park shelter is operating, and there is plenty of space.
ROAD CLOSURES:
Road 5500 is closed at Lee Acres.
Road 6675 (APS bridge) is closed.
Inspections are pending for both bridges, and they will not reopen before they are inspected by NMDOT.

UTILITY UPDATE:
Sewer systems are all functioning.
There are around 500 power outages, and outages may take a few days to be restored after infrastructure is inspected.
Municipal drinking water supplies are safe.
Private water wells may be contaminated; testing support has been requested from the State.
New Mexico Gas has had limited residential gas outages. For customers returning home after evacuation: if you suspect a gas leak, immediately leave the area and then call our 24/7 hotline at 1-888-NM-GAS-CO (1-888-664-2726) or call 911. Do not return to the area until New Mexico Gas Company has given the all-clear.

DAMS & LAKES:
Navajo Lake is 62.29% full and has 57.39 feet of storage. Navajo Dam is safe and secure and releasing 250 cfs, which is the minimum for operations.
Electra Lake is safe and secure and not releasing.
Lake Nighthorse is safe and secure and not releasing.

Other updates:
A Disaster Recovery Center will open at 8:00 am at San Juan College’s Quality Center for Business, 5101 College Boulevard, 8am to 5pm. Residents impacted by flooding may find assistance there which will include, State Disaster Recovery representatives, Red Cross for case management, 211 info, San Juan County Community Development, and floodplain info (insurance, construction permitting info). They will have checklists for insurance, FEMA info, and other helpful information.
Additional resources will become available as we transition to recovery efforts.

San Juan College will host a Disaster Recovery Center beginning Monday, October 26, at 8 a.m. The center will be located in the Quality Center for Business building on the San Juan College campus.

Location:

Farmington, NM 87402

Hours:
Monday–Saturday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

The Disaster Recovery Center will bring together multiple agencies to provide assistance to community members impacted by the recent flooding.

For individuals in need of emergency shelter, McGee Park remains open and has space available.

Denise Null and her daughters, Lisa Bell and Tina Jackson, own and operate Little Gigglers Learning Center, the first child care center in Tatum, New Mexico. They participated in our Lea County Child Care Accelerator this year, expanding their skill set and adequately preparing them to run a child care business.

WESST's Native Women Rising is focused on empowering Native and Indigenous entrepreneurs. Our team recently hosted the Northern NM Entrepreneurship Bootcamp in collaboration with our partners at UNM-Taos HIVE, hosting modules centered around strengthening Indigenous businesses through values, storytelling, marketing, and more.

Alysia Coriz is from the Pueblo of Santo Domingo. She was raised making traditional jewelry with her family in their multi-generation business. As she continues to sew, embroider, and make jewelry, she understands the Indigenous entrepreneur experience. Alysia is honored to serve as WESST's Native Women Rising Program Director.

Heather C. Gomez is a Jicarilla Apache tribal member, entrepreneur, and community advocate from Dulce, New Mexico. She is the owner of Dulce Base Tipi, offering accommodations and cultural experiences on the Jicarilla Apache Nation, and Big D Flooring, a flooring installation business serving Northern NM and Colorado. Heather is an independent contractor with WESST's Native Women Rising team.
