I am deeply honored and grateful to share this news: as a Japanese calligrapher, I have been selected as one of the artists for SURFACE: Emerging Artists of New Mexico at The Harwood Art Center.
The exhibition will run from June 11 through July 25 and will feature two of my works. As part of the program, I am honored to receive an award and participate in a series of professional development workshops.
I feel truly fortunate to be standing at a new starting line at this stage of my life. After a series of injuries and hand surgery, I found myself naturally returning to the Japanese elements I had once intentionally set aside to be accepted and assimilate into American society. Perhaps the time has come to reclaim a missing piece of myself and allow it to take its place in the work I do today.
I am deeply grateful for the opportunities I have been given in New Mexico and for the many people who have supported me over the years.
Moving forward, whether in piano, calligraphy, or other fields, I will try not to label or categorize myself. I will simply follow what feels right in each moment and let it shape my work, wherever it leads, in whatever form it takes.
