The Iron Work Farm name derives from the original name of a 1,000-acre plantation which was granted in 1654 to Major Simon Willard, a founder of Concord. The land grant was acquired by the Concord Iron Works Company about 1660 and became the location of the first village settlement in Acton between 1700 & 1710. The area was incorporated as a town in 1735.

Join us for. Patriots Day Celebration on Saturday, April 18, 1:00 p.m.

Travel back in time with the Iron Work Farm to share the experience of two generations of Col. Francis Faulkner’s family on the first day of the American Revolution, when Acton’s West Militia marched from the Faulkner house to the Concord Bridge.

After the men left, the women and children gathered in the dooryard to cook food to be taken on horseback to them later in the day. Come experience the virtues of authentic foods, join in colonial games on the lawn, tour the house (the oldest in Acton!), and meet the Acton Minutemen!

The Minutemen will be drilling on the lawn during the afternoon, and then return about 5:45 with the alarm rider bringing the news to Col. Faulkner of the British marching on Concord.
Parking is available on nearby public lots. www.ironworkfarm.org.

Come and join us for our educational children's program, "Goodnight and Sleep Tight" on Sunday, May 25th from 10am to 5pm at the Jones Tavern and Faulkner House.

Did you ever wonder where that saying comes from? This activity will solve the mystery. You will learn the mysteries of colonial nocturnal life when you experience a visit to the Jones Tavern. Following this interactive experience, you will be invited to share in “breaking fast” in our Tavern dining room feasting on a traditional Colonial American meal.

Later, you are invited to head over to the Faulkner House to participate in the Hidden Treasures Program sponsored by Freedoms Way where you will have a reception with Mrs. Faulkner in the recently restored bed chamber. She will show off the recently restored Col. Faulkner field desk which was also used to conduct the General Court in the Faulkner House Great room.

Reception invitations will be provided at the door to be presented upon entering the bed chamber. RSVP is highly recommended.

This program is being conducted in conjunction with Acton 250.

This program is offered by Iron Work Farm and Acton 250 as part of the Hidden Treasures Festival of Nature, Culture & History, an annual month-long celebration showcasing events and activities hosted by local partners celebrating the unique places, objects, and stories of the Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area. Hidden Treasures programs are free and open to the public.
