Volunteers Needed!

Household Goods has many volunteer shifts but especially needs help on Saturdays, our busiest day, with donors lined up to drop off goods and clients who cannot take time off during the week. It is also the day when we need the most volunteers to keep things running smoothly.

Volunteering on Saturdays is also a terrific way to spend some time with your teenage children, or with your spouse/partner, or with a group of friends who want to make a difference in the lives of others.

Our next New Volunteer Orientations are August 27 and September 12 (10 AM, on site at 530 Main St, Acton) and September 15 (7 PM, virtual via Zoom registration). To learn more and register for orientation, visit https://householdgoods.org/volunteering/

Many thanks to this team from Eversource MA for their recent volunteer day with our organization. They spent time with us processing donated items, moving furniture and ensuring there were cleaned fans in working order for clients during this hot summer! Their time and effort go directly toward our mission — providing donated furniture and household items, free of charge, to families in need across our community.

We warmly welcome corporate volunteer groups and find that these partnerships are among the most impactful ways for organizations to engage with our work. If your company is interested in a group volunteer experience, we would love to connect. Learn more at https://www.householdgoods.org/volunteering/volunteer-groups/

This past week was a favorite annual volunteer appreciation event: Ice Ceam Week! Whether its cool and rainy, hot and humid or somewhere in between, our volunteers are there: we could not fulfill our mission without them.

Thanks to the students who volunteered with us for our July Student Team Week. They worked together to prepare items for our clients, including processing rugs, fans and furniture as well as restocking the showroom, emptying trucks of donations and assisting clients during their appointments.

A huge thank you to The Silver Unicorn Bookstore for hosting a towel drive for Household Goods!

Towels are one of those everyday essentials that many of us take for granted — but for a family moving into a new home with nothing, they matter more than words can say. The Silver Unicorn’s generosity is making a real difference for our neighbors in need.

Single-item drives like this one are a wonderful example of how businesses can make a meaningful impact without a lot of complexity. Pick one item, invite your customers to participate, and watch the community come together. It really is that simple — and that powerful. If your business or organization is looking for this kind of opportunity, we’d love to partner with you!
