PASSION FOR PEOPLE

A gospel of exclusion had no power to reach already-banished persons. Our position and posture are informed and motivated by the heart of Jesus as expressed in Holy Scriptures. We are convicted that the application of biblical truth regarding sexual teachings in Scriptures must also apply to non-sexual teachings of the scripture. It's a level field at the foot of the Cross. How we treat people is an equally critical moral matter. We aim for the posture of Jesus: to faithfully honor God, and to radically love LGBT+ people.

πŸ“’ One week left to sign up! Now is the time!

After reading Guiding Families 5th Edition, maybe you felt a shift in how you parent, how you lead, how you show up for the people you love.

Now's your chance to help others have that same experience!

The Facilitator Training is Tuesday, September 1st, 1–3pm ET β€” for pastors or parents who want to learn how to lead a group like this well.

You don't need to be an expert. You need to be willing to hold the room. We'll show you how.

God did not intend for us to carry our burdens on our own, yet that is what many pastors end up feeling required to do.

"What is hurtful to me is the underlying attitude that if someone's children don't fit the model the denomination has set, the parents must have done something wrong. While I believe in God's original design for marriage, I also realize we have all fallen short of the glory of God. The sometimes harsh attitudes and words about the LGBT+ community don't help us in our healing and dealing with the situation."

πŸ‘‰ These are real words from real pastors from a survey we conducted to better understand what ministry leaders go through when someone they love comes out.

"About nine years ago, my daughter came out. A year ago, my youngest son came out to me and my wife, and we found out on Mother's Day that he had gotten married. The sad thing is that no one came to us, wrapped their arms around us, ministered to us, or shared the love of Jesus. I was asked to resign as Senior Pastor at the church I had been at for 20 years because my adult child came out as LGBT+."

This is a heavy burden to carry alone...but you don't have to.

If this is your story, or you're walking alongside someone whose story sounds like this one, consider getting a copy of Guiding Families of LGBT+ Loved Ones: Revised Fifth Edition. Start there. Then join a safe, confidential reading group--a new one is starting September 29th.

You are not alone. Your ministry is vital. Your family is important. We are here to help.

Culture warrior or cultural missionary. You can't be both. Agree?

One fights to win. The other stays to love.
One sees people as opponents.
The other sees them as image-bearers.

If your church wants to be a safe place for LGBT+ people and their families, this shift in posture is important.

Want the other 80 tips in one place?

πŸ‘‡ Comment "80" and we'll send you the full list: "80 Tips to Make Your Church a Safe and Inclusive Place."

We didn't just make these tips up. We collaborated with pastors, parents, and LGBT+ Christians to develop 80 tips for building safer churches. These are raw ideas from our conferences and we know they will help you.

If you allow a marginalized people group to be mistreated for decades, eventually a new generation will rise up and call it injustice.

And if that new generation cannot get us to see what they see, ultimately, they will abandon what they see as an unreliable truth in order to accomplish justice (kind treatment of people).

When this happens, they are not far off the mark!

While Scripture holds truth and grace together as two equally tethered strands that reflect the full character of our Heavenly Father, the Bible continually defaults to love.

Consider 1 Corinthians 13:13 (Amplified Bible), which states:
β€œAnd so faith, hope, love abide [faith β€” conviction and belief respecting man’s relation to God and divine things; hope β€” joyful and confident expectation of eternal salvation; love β€” true affection for God and man, growing out of God’s love for and in us], these three; but the greatest of these is love.”

Do you know what happens when a new generation rises up and begins to call out our blind spots?

It's the opportunity to listen to them, learn from them, recognize our sins,
repent, confess, and begin to build safe churches and families addressing their insights and concerns.
