Five days. New faces. Brave patients. So many people quietly working behind the scenes to make it all happen.

This week, our Rise Above Foundation dental mission brought volunteer dentists from Denmark, Canada, the Philippines, and the USA to Brgy. Mabini, Cebu City, providing free dental care to families in the community.

But a dental mission is never just about the dentists.

It takes a whole community to make those five days possible. โค๏ธ

A big THANK YOU to the Barangay Mabini officials, headed by Barangay Captain Richard Adolfo, for welcoming us and supporting the mission.

To the Barangay workers, BPSO, BHWs, and all the barangay health workers โ€” thank you for being there every day, taking vital signs, helping with sterilization, assisting patients, and doing all the little things that kept the clinic moving. Your work may happen behind the scenes, but it is a huge part of what makes these missions possible.

And Ma'am Enjel, thank you for helping organize the flow of patients and making sure things stayed on track. Your coordination helped make the long days a little easier for everyone. ๐Ÿ’™

Thank you for giving our dental team a comfortable place to stay and for extending a special accommodation discount. For the past two years, you have welcomed our team during our dental missions in the upland barangays of Cebu City. What started as accommodation has truly felt like a second home for our volunteers.

And, of course, to our volunteer dentists from Denmark, Canada, the Philippines, and the USA โ€” thank you for spending your time in Cebu and sharing your skills with the community. Your willingness to serve is something we deeply appreciate.

There were long days, early mornings, tired feet, busy clinics, and lots of moving parts.

But there were also smiles, conversations, grateful patients, and the feeling that โ€” together โ€” we were able to make someone's day a little better.

That is what community looks like.

For five days, the dental clinic was filled with nervous smiles, brave students, busy dental chairs, conversations, laughter, and so many little moments that made this mission special. โค๏ธ

Together with our incredible volunteer dentists from Denmark, Philippines, Canada, and the USA, Rise Above Foundation provided free dental services to 642 students.

๐Ÿฆท THE IMPACT
475 teeth restored
626 teeth extracted
189 students received oral prophylaxis and dental cleaning
642 students received dental care

But these numbers represent more than procedures. They represent students who were able to receive care, find relief from dental problems, and walk away with healthier smiles and renewed confidence.

For some, it may have been their first experience receiving this kind of dental service. And for us, seeing their smiles after treatment was the most meaningful part of the mission.

A special THANK YOU to Ma'am Princess Mondejar - Estrada , our dedicated coordinator, for working behind the scenes and making sure everything was organized and running smoothly throughout the five-day mission. Your support made a huge difference. ๐Ÿ’™

We are grateful to the volunteer dentists and dental professionals from Denmark and the USA who generously shared their expertise, time, and compassion with our learners.

Thank you as well to the Dsosmnhs: Supreme Secondary Learners Government (SSLG), school administration, faculty, teachers, and staff of Don Sergio Osmena Sr. Memorial National High School - Night Department for welcoming us and helping create a safe and organized space for the students.

Our appreciation also goes to Barangay Labangon and the Sangguniang Kabataan - Barangay Labangon for sponsoring food for the dental mission. Your generosity helped care for the people who spent these days serving our students. ๐Ÿ™

This mission was made possible because many people chose to give what they could โ€” their professional skills, their time, their resources, and their willingness to help.

Some days remind us why community work matters so much.
This was one of those days. โค๏ธ

We are incredibly grateful to the amazing volunteer dentists from Healthcare Expeditions International (HealthEx) who came all the way to Cebu City to share not only their dental skills, but also their time, patience, and genuine care with our community through our Free Dental Mission at OPRRA Elementary and High School.

And what a mission it was!

๐Ÿฆท 503 teeth extracted
๐Ÿฆท 230 patients received prophylaxis/dental cleaning

Behind these numbers are 757 people who came with different stories, different needs, and sometimes a lot of fear or painโ€”and left with treatment, relief, and hopefully, a little more confidence to smile. ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐ŸŒ WHO IS HEALTHEx?

Healthcare Expeditions International (HealthEx) is a Singapore-registered, student-run NGO founded in 2009. They organize medical outreach missions to help bring healthcare closer to communities that need it, while also giving future healthcare leaders the opportunity to learn, serve, and make a difference.

We are so thankful that Cebu was part of their journey.

Sometimes people only see the actual dental treatment, but there is so much work that happens before, during, and after a mission. Thank you for giving your time and energy to make this possible.

A mission like this reminds us that no one can do it alone.

Our hearts are full of gratitude as we look back on the Rise Above Foundation Free Dental Missions at OPRRA Elementary and High School, made possible through the generosity and dedication of the amazing volunteer dentists from Healthcare Expeditions International (HealthEx).

For several days, dentists from Singapore, the UK, Canada, the Philippines, and beyond came together to share not only their skills, but also their time, patience, and compassion with students, teachers, and members of the Barangay Kalunasan community.

And the impact was incredible:

We are truly grateful for a successful distribution of school supplies at Rise Above Foundation Community Center to kids who are not yet a part of the sponsorship program, showing them that they are valued and encouraged to keep pursuing their dreams.
