SUCfree Wanaka

SUCfree Wanaka SUCfree (Single Use Cup-free) Wānaka is a campaign by the community, for the community

Creating a SUCfree Wanaka in the next three years

In Wanaka alone, up to 1 million takeaway coffee cups end up in landfill or contaminating recycling streams every year. These cups take decades to break down, emitting carbon and methane as they do it – and, without a commercial composting facility, the compostable ones can be even worse for our environment. SUCfree (Single Use Cup-free) Wanaka is campaign by the community, for the community, to make our beautiful place free of the scourge that is single-use cups by 2022. It’s a big ask but the team behind it – Plastic Free Wanaka, hospitality group Wanaka Hospo Goes Eco and WAO New Zealand, reckon that if anyone can do it – our place can.

Meet Wānaka's first certified SUCfree Workplace...🎉

When they found out about our workplace initiative, this team didn't need convincing.

They were already SUCfree before they signed up with reusable cups at every event, site, and desk. Certification just made it official.

Thanks for leading the way, WAI Wānaka!

Your reusable cup has places to be...

Clicked into the cupholder on the drive to Roys Peak.
Balanced on a rock halfway up the track.
Sipped at the summit.
Rinsed out and ready to do it all over again.

So next time you're in Wānaka, pack your cup.
The adventures are endless. 🏔️⛷️☕
