Across New Zealand, more and more elderly people are facing the harsh reality of food insecurity. Many older Kiwis are being forced to choose between paying for essentials like rent, power, medication, and putting food on the table.

For some, fixed incomes and rising living costs mean meals are skipped, cupboards stay empty longer, and nutritious food becomes harder to afford. What many people don’t see is that a growing number of elderly are quietly struggling behind closed doors, often too proud or embarrassed to ask for help and often think they can go without.

No one who has spent their lifetime contributing to our communities should have to worry about where their next meal is coming from.

Keep an eye out around town for our new posters, created to support and connect with our older community members.

How wonderful are these pumpkins from Firth Tower Reserve and Museum.We love being able to give out fresh produce to our families — it makes such a difference alongside the pantry items.

If anyone has extra veggies from their garden (pumpkin, fruit , potatoes, greens, anything really!) we’d be so grateful to take them off your hands and pass them on to local whānau who need them.

Big thank you to the local gardeners at Sustainable Matamata we really do appreciate everything you do for our community 🙂
