If you're out & about this weekend keep safe, watch out for falling branches etc - if you don't need to go out, stay home.

Heavy rain across the region from Cyclone Vaianu may increase the risk of landslides across our region.

Landslides can happen suddenly during and even after heavy rain, especially in steep areas, around banks, cliffs, and roadside cuttings.
If you can, avoid unnecessary travel in these areas over the next few days.

⚠️ Watch for warning signs, you may need to act quickly:
• Small slips, rock falls, or sinking ground at the base of slopes
• Doors or windows sticking or not closing properly
• Gaps appearing around window or door frames
• Decks, steps or verandas tilting or pulling away from buildings
• New cracks or bulges in the ground, roads, paths, or retaining walls
• Trees, fences, or retaining walls starting to lean

🚨 If you notice these signs, move away immediately.
Evacuate if you think your home or building could be at risk.

Heavy rain can continue to affect land stability even after it eases, so stay alert.

Next week - the Peka has been given the opportunity to run the Matamata Op Shop. For those of you outside of Matamata, this is a community Op Shop, where groups, organisations, clubs, schools are given the opportunity to run the Op Shop on a week by week basis. The Op Shop has it's own committee & a weekly rent is paid to the committee by the group running that week. Anything else made after that goes straight to the group. Great way to get a little bit more into our pūtea. Goods for the shop are donated by the community & the group running the shop. Those running the shop are usually volunteers from the group.
So - if you have any clothing, bric-a-brac, furniture etc in fairly good condition that you would like to donate, please pop them down on those days. Also, if you would like to volunteer some of your time on those days, feel free to message us.
