The MPDC are refreshing their Community Outcomes — They set the long term direction for our district, and guide the decisions that shape everyday life here. They also feed directly into the Long Term Plan - our 10 year roadmap for what the MPDC focus on, what they fund and what they deliver.

What kind of place do you want this to be?
Fast forward 3, 5 or 10 years. If Matamata Piako was exactly the kind of place you wanted to live in, what would it be like?
That’s what Community Outcomes help define.

Building on what you’ve already told us
MPDC have gathered past community feedback and shaped it into themes and drafted community outcomes.

Now they want to check what they’ve got right, what might be missing, and what may need a rethink.

Why your input matters
Your insights help turn broad outcomes into clear priorities — from everyday things like footpaths and facilities to where we invest for the future.

We’ve got a newly elected Council - bringing together both new and experienced members - and they want to hear what matters most for our district’s future direction.

Pop in to the Matamata Session today, at anytime between 4pm and 7pm. 15–30 minutes is plenty of time to contribute.

💬 Safer Stores, Stronger Community – Happening Today at 11am

Recent events in town have reminded us all how important it is to look after our local businesses and the people who work in them. Retail crime doesn’t just affect store owners - it impacts staff, customers, and the overall feel of our town centre.

Today at 11am at The Merchant of Matamata, we’re hosting Safer Stores, Stronger Community in partnership with New Zealand Police.

This is an open conversation about what’s happening locally, what can be done, and how we as a community can support safer retail spaces in Matamata. Everyone is welcome - business owners, staff, and members of the public who care about keeping our town safe and thriving.

A huge thanks to Trish DeJong, Brendon Russo and Glyn Jenkins of Matamata Country Club for hosting our Business After Five last night.

We had an absolutely fabulous evening - around 50 of our members fitted comfortably into the beautiful Te Kowhai showhome, and it really was the perfect setting.

If you haven’t visited the Country Club yet, it’s well worth a look. The homes are stunning, the grounds are park-like, and the whole place has a real five-star feel. Trish and Brendon, thanks again for your warm hospitality and for giving us such a great space to connect.

Always good to see our local businesses shining!
