Final opportunity today to register for our 2026 Conference and Field Trip in Nelson, 16-17 October 2026. Ticket sales close today at 7PM.

Trustee Paul Quinlan, Ecologist Meg Graeme, Dr James Griffiths from Nelson City Council, are among those who will be giving an overview of recent transitioning-to-native-forest projects. Dr Sean Weaver from Ekos, Dr James Griffiths, and Dr Yvette Dickinson, from the Bioeconomy Science Institute, are contributing to the panel discussion chaired by Erik Van Eyndhoven, of The Nature Conservancy Aotearoa New Zealand.

On the Saturday Field Trip, there will be further opportunities to share ideas with Dr James Griffiths, Meg Graeme, and Trustees Paul Quinlan, David Bergin and Michael Bergin from Tāne's Tree Trust.

Two days remaining to register for tickets for our 2026 Beyond the 'Canopy' - Rethinking How We Grow Native Forests two-day conference and fieldtrip.

Join us in Nelson to hear our invited Speakers talk about their experiences growing native forests: Te Kapunga Dewes, Ngahere Oho, Whenua Oho, Tahua Ngahere; Dr. Adam Forbes, Forbes Ecology; Greg Hart, Farmer Perspective, On-the-Ground Farming; Steven Cox, Te Uru Rākau – New Zealand Forest Service; and Lucy Garrett, The Nature Conservancy Aotearoa New Zealand.

Mosaic Aotearoa's co-founder Chris Ensor, Dr. Yvette Dickinson from the Bioeconomy Science Institute; and Nateva's Peter Casey are among the five contributors to the panel discussion chaired by Erik Van Eyndhoven from The Nature Conservancy Aotearoa New Zealand.

We are being joined by Neil Deans, Pou Taiao - Ngāti Koata, to discuss Ngāti Koata's contributions to native restoration across its rohe. This mahi is an example of Kaitiaki responsibilities of iwi towards te taiao.

Ngāti Koata's decades of mahi culminated in being recognised as the winner of the Mana Whenua category in the 2nd annual Growing Native Forest Champions Awards. The Minister of Forestry presented Ngāti Koata with their award at the 2026 earlier this year. Mana Whenua: Ngāti Koata Trust (Te Tauihu) for championing iwi-led native forest restoration.

Dr James Griffiths will be contributing as a panelist in the afternoon session led by Erik van Eyndhoven: What will the forests of the future look like?

Dr James Griffiths is Forest Systems Manager at . In a morning session, his presentation will describe Council’s work to establish and maintain permanent forest cover across steep unstable hill country, including the transition of its commercial pine estate to closed-canopy, mixed-species forest.

In the afternoon, he will be joining a range of practitioners in the aforementioned panel session. Join us in Nelson, 16-17 October 2026, to discuss "Beyond the 'Canopy' - Rethinking How We Grow Native Forests".
